For weeks, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has been accusing NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh of supporting the government until February so he can become eligible for his MP pension. But experts estimate the size of Poilievre's own pension at more than three times that of Singh's pension. A calculation of Poilievre's House of Commons pension indicates that he could draw more than $230,000 annually once he turns 65. That figure could grow considerably if Poilievre becomes prime minister following the next federal election. If Singh qualifies for his pension, he could draw more than $66,000 annually starting at age 65, the same estimates suggest.

17. 01. 2026. Retirement
Wanna know what i've been crashing out about most of the weekend? The fact that i am never going to be able to afford to retire. I checked my annual work pension statement yesterday, and there isn't even half my current annual salary in there. And the state pension probably won't even be a thing here in the UK the way things are currently going. I am fucked unless i either win the lottery, marry someone rich, or have a rich relative out there i don;t know about who dies and leaves everything to me. Otherwise I am going to be working until i fucking drop dead.
If there is one, singular piece of advice that my exhausted 45 year old ass can give any of you, it's to start a pension as soon as you turn 18 years old. If you're 25 and under and don't yet have a pension, make it a priority right now to start one, and to make sure that you pay something into it every month. I cannot express just how fucking important it is to plan for retirement as soon as you fucking can.
(i think a pension in the US is called a 401k??)
Hi Aunties Bitches! I recently started a new job that offers either a pension plan or a 401k-style investment account as retirement options. I have six months left to decide which to pick.
How do I figure out which option is best for me? Any advice?
When your employer gives you an option like this, they SHOULD also give you some guidance. So make sure to ask your HR representative at work if they have any details or paperwork that will educate you on the two options.
All that said... I'd personally pick the pension. The 401(k) was invented as a pension alternative that would be more favorable to employers. There's more nuance than that, and depending on your personal situation you might prefer the 401(k) (or similar), so I still recommend more research. But here are our thoughts on the matter:
