It teaches you that ever even thinking about other people in a relationship is wild, and then staying with the original person in case the person you're talking to that you ACTUALLY LIKE NOW don't want to commit or something. Like what??? Shows that there is some very conditional reason you are with them, that your love is not unconditional and that it is furthest from pure. Like it actually shocks me when I think of people who do this utterly awful behaviour when PERCY GAVE UP IMMORTALITY FOR HIS CRUSH WHO HAD GIVEN NEARLY NO SIGN OF WANTING TO BE WITH HIM he simply trusted his heart because he loved her so unconditionally.
There was no "full-proof" thought process, there was nothing "conditional" about his choice, it was purely: "I would prefer to grow old beside Annabeth over living eternally with absolute power, even if we never become something more" and that is what true commitment looks like.
