They say that a person’s personality is the sum of their experiences. But that isn’t true, at least not entirely, because if our past was all that defined us, we’d never be able to put up with ourselves. We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we’re more than the mistakes we made yesterday. That we are all of our next choices, too, all of our tomorrows.

one of the things i love about doyoung is his realism. in To You it's so noticeable, he's just so true. he is so honest in his message to mark and it's so refreshing.
[this turned into a whole essay on doyoung's reflected personality and i'm not sure how that happened but, umm, i’m sorry?]
it starts already with his reaction to taeyong's message. he's keeping a calm face and he says ‘since this video will be released... thank you taeyong’ – he's saying, he won't go further into it because a simple thank you is enough and he can talk to taeyong properly, later in private. he doesn't dance around it, he lets us know as much as his friend, the message meant something to him but he is keeping some privacy to himself. which is totally valid.
he also backpedals at one point, when he wants to say something about ‘if there is anything i [doyoung] wanted from you [mark] seriously’ but then decides to keep it secret and tell mark separately. again, he doesn't gloss over it and honestly lets us (the fans) know that there are parts he wants to keep between just them. a reality check that also enforces the boundaries around him as an idol and him as private person.
doyoung also says, no matter if nct 127 have chemistry or if they get along, their team overcame these factors that every human relationship has. even with ‘different tastes and personalities’ which are unavoidable and omnipresent, they all chose to work together and formed a bond that he says feels ‘fateful’ to him because it works so well. he thanks mark and the whole team for ‘being an experience’ for him, he's essentially saying they shaped his being and thinking and he is thankful to them for it.
tying into that, he also reveals that, even though they might not be similar souls, mark is still precious to him or maybe even because of their differences. he has watched mark grow alongside him and now feels he can understand him as a person, he can appreciate his intelligence and value fully.
the way he doesn't pretend mark and him are on the same wavelength offstage (he mentions onstage being a ‘different life’ and communication not even being needed, but that's a whole nother story). he goes way into it, saying they might not agree with the same things, they might not disagree with the same things, but they can get along and they can respect the other's opinions. toward the end he says he has learnt a lot from mark, in every aspect and he is ‘a good person/a person he likes’.
doyoung is also aware that between humans, especially with different views, there can be misunderstandings and miscommunication and apologises to mark if there should ever have been buried grievances like that between them. he knows he makes mistakes, all humans do, and that these mistakes might hurt people unintentionally, but he wants to make sure mark knows he truly cares and is sorry for any hurt he might have been a part of unknowingly.
in the end he kinda apologises for making everything so deep and serious which, goddamn, i relate and that his mind is just very serious. then he also does a very cute thumbs up which is cute.
After I was told I had Borderline Personality Disorder, I turned to tumblr to find people post about their experiences with the disorder and talk about their symptoms. Tumblr has become sort of a safe haven for me in my journey.
I’m anonymous, as far as tumblr goes, I have no name, I’m just someone with a disorder seeking closer and answers, and tumblr gives it to me. I’ve seen hundred of people posting about their experiences, and they’re always about things that I couldn’t find the right words to describe it. People post about what they feel and what goes on and it eases me knowing that there are people like that out there who understand, and I get a perfect explanation of what’s going on.
I have screenshotted so many posts about Borderline Personality Disorder to show to my councelors, therapists, family, friends, just so I can show them what’s going on, I can show them what I feel and why I feel it. It eases my soul.
