summary: just Peter being a hopeless romantic

You came home to find Peter sitting on the floor of your apartment, surrounded by half eaten Chinese takeout and his notebooks spread everywhere. His hair was sticking up in all directions.
Still your heart did that annoying flip the second he looked up at you.
“Hey babe” he said, smiling like you were the best thing he’d seen all day. “You’re home.”
You set your bag down and raised an eyebrow. “You look like you’ve been through a war with that hair and all the papers around you.”
He looked around at the chaos and shrugged. “Chemistry homework. Basically the same thing.”
Laughing, you walked over and sat next to him. “Did you at least eat?”
“Kind of.” He pointed at the takesway box that was basically empty. “I saved you some. Well… a little.”
You shook your head, stealing the carton from him anyway. “You’re hopeless.”
“I know” he said, resting his chin on your shoulder as you ate. “But I’m your hopeless.”
You rolled your eyes, but you couldn’t stop smiling. “That’s so cheesy.”
“You love it” he whispered, grinning against your skin.
The thing about Peter was… he never stopped. Never stopped looking at you like you had Heaven in your eyes, never stopped saying things that made your heart stutter, never stopped loving you out loud. It was like every day he found a new way to remind you that you were it for him.
And honestly? You adored it. I mean how could you not.
“Babe” he said after a moment, pulling back just enough to look at you. His brown eyes were soft, tired but warm. “Can I say something kinda, how would you call it, cheesy?”
You laughed. “Since when do you ask permission?”
“Fair point” he said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. Then he just… blurted it out. “You make me feel like I’m actually worth something. Like, I know that sounds dumb, but every time you smile at me or bring me food after patrol or even just text me to ask if I’m okay… it’s like, damn. She cares. She really cares. And that makes me fall for you even harder.”
Your chest tightened and you set the carton aside so you could actually face him. “Peter…”
“I mean it” he insisted, leaning closer. “I can get beat up by criminals all night and feel like shit, but then I come here and you ask me if I’m hungry or if I’m okay and I swear my heart almost explodes. I don’t know how you do that. You just… make me feel loved. Every single day.”
You were definitely blushing now, which only made him grin wider.
“You’re ridiculous” you muttered.
“Ridiculously in love with you,” he shot back instantly, and you shoved his shoulder, laughing.
“Stop making me smile so much. My face hurts.”
“Good” he said softly, sliding his hand into yours. “That’s my favorite look on you.”
You stared at him for a second, the way his thumb traced lazy circles on the back of your hand, the way his eyes searched yours like he couldn’t believe you were real.
“You know” you said finally, “you don’t have to thank me for caring. That’s just… what people do when they love someone very much.”
Peter’s face softened even more, if that was possible. “Yeah but you don’t just love me. You see me. All of me. And you don’t run away when things get messy. That’s… that’s everything to me.”
You leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to his lips before pulling back with a smile. “You’re such a dork.”
“Your dork” he corrected, grinning.
The two of you ended up sprawled on the floor together, the notebooks shoved aside, your head resting on his chest as his arm wrapped around you. He absentmindedly played with your hair while you scrolled through your phone, the kind of simple domestic moment that felt almost too good to be real.
“Hey” he murmured suddenly.
“Yeah?”
“I’m never letting you go. Just so you know.”
You laughed softly. “Good. Because I’m not planning on going anywhere.”
His chest rose with a deep breath, like he was trying to lock that promise inside him forever. “Cool. Then it’s settled. You’re stuck with me. Forever.”
You tilted your head up to look at him. “Forever sounds perfect.”
He smiled down at you, that hopelessly romantic look back in his eyes. “I’m gonna keep falling in love with you every day until we’re old and wrinkly. Just a warning.”
You groaned, covering your face with your hands. “Stop being so cheesy!”
He gently pried your hands away and kissed you quick. “Never.”
