thinking about how jose porla probably found gajeel in the streets after metalicana was gone and 'raised' him, just like makarov did with the fairy tail children. how much gajeel and jose are like the inverse of makarov and natsu. how much violence can be taught & how much gajeel probably though that violence was affection. growing up in that guild.

i have the biggest lucy bias ever but this is the first time it struck me that her mouthing off to gajeel in the phantom arc was her way of punishing herself for bringing all this chaos to fairy tail. since she couldn't fight herself and had to keep running, AND no one in fairy tail was blaming her. her own sense of guilt made her want to be punished and gajeel helped things along.

im like 99% certain this is also why it was so easy for her to accept gajeel as a member of fairy tail (the part of her that hesitated was for shadow gear only imo)

Okay so, I’m almost done with the Phantom Lord arc, I’ll be done tomorrow, but you have the flashbacks of Natsu joining the guild while watching the guild hall get destroyed which is super sad or whatever, I was crying, and I know the point of the flashbacks is to show us that his motivation for the arc is that he doesn’t want to lose Lucy because he already lost Lissana, but it’s funny to me because it’s framed in a way that suggests that she replaced her in his life ??????

you know that scene in the tartarus arc where lucy breaks aquarius’s key? trick question of course you do.

i would like you to recognize that before she breaks the key, she says “i can’t sacrifice one friend to save others!”

and you know what this reminds me of? the phantom lord arc. lucy says (or at least tries to say) that she’ll leave and go with phantom lord to her father, so that no one would get hurt. no one accepts this anyhow, and they all strive to protect lucy and not sacrifice her for their own good.
