Maybe someone thought of this before me but I love the idea the photos were highly restricted during the project and so all of the recent photos of grace before the launch were just photos from press/conferences and his security badge. Which leaves him with basically zero photos/videos showing his actual relaxed personality for a long span of what people considered the end of his life.

How Project Hail Mary characters spent 2020 quarantine

Grace: Was being introduced to every pet of the school via. Zoom calls. He eventually set aside a minute of class as pet show and tell, and even that went downhill when Ethan from first period showed off Slinky the ball python.

Stratt: Joined the bandwagon of writing essays on The Decameron. She actually was able to publish a short paper on how food availability effected it’s writing.

Carl: ‘That’s classified.’ (In all seriousness, he was probably working at Area 51 or something.)

Dr. Lamai: Simultaneously working on developing COVID treatments and watching her company tank.

Dr. Illukhana: Video calling friends, day drinking, and not wearing any clothes while alone in her apartment.

Dr. DuBois: Getting way too invested in the data analysis of the whole thing. His family is correctly saying that he’s freaking himself out, but he’ll deny it until the cows come home.

Dr. Lokkan: Publishing papers nonstop and fighting conspiracy theorists on the internet in her spare time.

Dr. Yao: Trying not to get mind numbing oh bored by distracting his kids.

One day, shortly after his and Adrians clutch of pebbles hatch, Rocky visits Grace and presents him with several cracked open egg shaped geodes. They're beautiful but Grace doesn't know why Rocky is giving them to him. Rocky explains that Eridians will choose a close friend to be an additional parent to their pebbles. To love and care for the pebbles, teach them, watch them sleep. It's a great honor. Giving someone your pebbles eggs is an official way to ask them to become the additional parent. It shows that they are equally as much of a parent as the bio parents. Grace accepts while crying about it

I’ve already seen my fair share of jokes about this, but I genuinely cannot think of anything which would make a middle school class harder to control than a beloved teacher seen being brought into a creepy black car and just falling off of the face of the Earth for months.

Stratt will not be able to be within twenty miles of that school ever again, lest she get recognized by someone, and I headcanon that the kids gave her the name ‘Carmen Santiago’ while trying to figure out what the heck happened.

What if eridian pebbles make noises in their sleep since they dont achieve as deep of a sleep as adult eridians. —something about how evolutionary they need to be able to wake up if threatened while adults could just sleep through basically anything since they have much better camouflage, and a connection to the hc that pebbles have a thinner carrapace causing their organs to be heard.—

Eridians call this purring since pebbles can only do this when they feel safe enough to go into a deep enough sleep to let go of their "vocal cords".

The eridian medical team is quite surprised when the half-dead alien Rocky brought back feels safe enough around them to purr

Don't get me wrong, I love the tall Adrian hc, but imagine if they're actually pretty average in height (as in, they're still huge, which is the standard Eridian height) and Rocky is just a short king.

Headcanon that Grace would hang this specific pride flag up in his classroom on Earth to show his kids he accepted them no matter what. And Stratt would pack it with his stuff, leaving him very confused the first time he wakes up on the Hail Mary. Once he makes it to Erid, he hangs it up in the Biodome near the classroom, explaining to the pebbles what it meant for people on Earth.
