Metrodora Nova Black (née Gage) (1758-1853) was a pure-blood witch and a member of the Gage family and the House of Black. She was the daughter of Russell and Ophelia Gage, and the sister of Jasper Gage.

When she was eight her parents took in Antares Black and planned to marry them, but she never perceived him as a romantic partner. She attended Hogwarts and was sorted into the Ravenclaw house, being one of the better students of her year. She wanted to specialize on herbology, but her parents never wanted it.

At 17 she married Antares, who was 21 at the time. They had a completely platonic relationship and considered him her best friend. She knew her husband had a lover and didn't really care. The lover was her cousin, after all, and knew how much they loved each other. She also deduced the dubious paternity of her cousin's first daughter, seeing her blonde hair no one in her family had.

She always wanted to be a mother, and ended up having five children with her husband: Licorus, Phoebe, Eduardus, Hesper and Alexia. Not only that, but she wasn't really a purist, she just didn't care about it. Antares did care about it, and he was the one who disowned his son because of his ideals and his romantic relationship (later marriage) with a muggleborn.

Their mother laughs. “She’s bigger than both of you were and impatient to boot. Bit too late to be a Christmas present but it seems she couldn’t wait for the new year to begin.” “What are we calling her?” Phoebe wants to know. “Seems like ‘Baby’ could get kind of old pretty fast.” Anneliese looks knowingly up at Sirius. Phoebe’s words are truer than she knows. “I quite like the name Louisa but your father wants to name her after me.” “That seems like it could get rather confusing.” Jakob comments wryly, holding his new sister.  “Less so than you’d think.” Sirius offers, unable to tear his gaze away from this perfect, innocent little pink creature not even a day old. “What if we called her Libra or Columba?” Phoebe suggests, leaning against her mum. Anneliese makes a face that only her son catches. “How about Louisa Anneliese?” Jakob says, gently bouncing his finger in the baby’s fist. “That way she can be named after you, Mum, but we can call her Louisa.” “I think that’ll do splendidly.” Anneliese says happily, reaching her arms out to take back her youngest. “Thank you, darling.”
