Unexpected Club Penguin reference 😳😳 This game was my entire childhood, I loved it with my entire being 🫶🫶🫶
This design is from the Phoenix Queen from Secrets of the Bamboo Forest, my favorite theater play right beside Ruby and the Ruby 🙏🙏🙏 Not that I remember what the plot was tho unfortunately 🥴
I always used those clothes in the game, I think they’re stunning to this day! I’ll probably draw more club penguin inspired art, it’s really nostalgic 🥲🥲 And it’s fun imagining their human version 🥰
New oc joins the cast of Madara and company. Idk this one’s name either, but she was queen-consort to the god-king of the other realm. Imagine a phoenix whose reanimation went to fuck. A contradiction that isn’t easily summed up as undead.
Echoing through the great tavern halls of the land were the beginning whisperings of a legend. A girl and a dragon, a blazing light in the face of death--a queen rerisen in her ashes, the ashes which once consumed her. Already the rumors were spreading like wildfire set forth from dragon breath--all consuming and entirely unstoppable.
That a mere girl would dare challenge the Dragon King, let alone defeat him? Absurdity. Ale intake was questioned, rationed, cut off. But the cloaked figure in the corner had been listening. A traveling mage, his eyes glowed from beneath his hood. If this girl, the Phoenix Queen rerisen, were truly as powerful as these rumors made her out to be, could he have found his match at last? He hated having to admit it, but traveling the land in search of a challenge had finally grown old. He was tired of looking for a worthy fight.
If she was more powerful than the Dragon King--if she was more powerful than death itself--perhaps he'd found his match and could finally see the end to his journey. His eyes glowed dazzling golden hues as he played with the fire in his hand. Time would tell. He could see their meeting already with his gift of foresight. Full of fire, he knew in their meeting that at least one of them would be taken out.
"All right, Alita. It's your move." Two young women sat across from each other at a table, Duel Monster cards in hands. The duo were sisters, both having their late mother's chocolate brown eyes as well as the same delicate facial features. The older of the two, Sophie, had their mother's dark auburn hair. When left down, the brownish red locks fell just below her collar bone in length. At 18 years old, however, she already knew the consequences of falling in love with the wrong person, though the little one sitting in her sister's lap was the only good thing from a painful part of her past.
As for the younger of the siblings, Alita, she had inherited their father's platinum blonde hair. If her locks weren't up in a ponytail like usual, it would be slightly past her shoulders in length. The golden cuff bracelet around Alita's wrist clinked slightly as she drew her next card, the giggles of the toddler in her lap breaking her concentration for a brief moment and causing a smile to spread across her face. At almost 3 years old, Bethany was a small ball of sunshine in both Sophie and Alita's lives. Bethany was a smaller version of her mother, however, her round eyes were hazel instead of brown like her mother and Aunt. Alita gave a quick one armed hug to the little one, making her giggle before pulling a card from her hand. "First, I summon Vanguard of Dragon in attack mode. Next, I activate his special ability... By discarding Alexandrite Dragon from my hand to the Graveyard, my Vanguard of Dragon gains 300 attack points, making his attack strength 2000 points total." Alita called her move as she made it, her sister watching with eyes that seemed to analyze her every movement. Bethany beamed up at her Aunt. Moments like these were what Bethany loved most... Spending time with her Aunt and mother as they played their favorite game, sometimes with a little help from her....
Alita smiled back at her little niece. "Okay, baby Bee, remember that card we set facedown earlier?" She asked. Bethany nodded rapidly in response, her eyes lit up with excitement. "It's time to activate it." The exchange caused Sophie to raise a brow in suspicion.
"Just what are you two up to?" Sophie asked, her question being answered by her daughter hurriedly covering her mouth with her hands in an attempt to stifle her giggles.
"You'll find out soon enough, my dear sister." Alita replied, exchanging another smile with Bethany. Turning their attention to the game once more, Bethany flipped over the card Alita had tapped on as the teenager revealed their plan. "I activate the spell card Black Pendant, and by equipping it to my Vanguard of the Dragon, his attack points raise to 2500. Now, my Vanguard, attack!" Alita called out.
"Attack!" Bethany copied her Aunt, causing the two women to hide their giggles. However, Sophie was quicker to recover from her giggle fit.
"It was a good move, you two. However, it wasn't quite good enough." Sophie informed her sister and daughter, causing Alita to stop laughing, looking at her sister with a confused look. Before she could open her mouth to ask what her sister meant, Sophie flipped over a facedown card of her own. Alita's eyes widened in realization, sweatdropping.
"I'm completely toast, aren't I?" Alita asked.
"Afraid so, sister of mine. As you can see, the card I just played was Magic Cylinder." Sophie answered. A tug on Alita's shirt brought the teen's attention down to the toddler in her lap. Bethany's little brow was furrowed, her lip jutted out in a small pout. It was this very look that showed the little girl's puzzlement at face value... Literally.
"Auntie? What does Magic Cylinder do?" Bethany voiced her confusion.
"Magic Cylinder is a trap card that negates our attack and deals damage to us equal to our monster's attack strength. Due to Vanguard of the Dragon's special ability plus the Black Pendant spell card we played, Magic Cylinder hit us for 2000 life points more than we had. That means your Mom wins since the damage brings us to zero life points left either way."
"It's not like you two played badly. Bethany's still learning..."
"But I've been playing for 8 years and I still can't beat you." Alita interrupted as she let Bethany slide off her lap to go to her mother's side.
"I've only been dueling for 2 years longer." Sophie reminded her sister as she picked up Bethany, the little girl cuddling into her mother. "You picked up the game faster than I did, it's just a matter of time before you beat me." Alita shrugged.
"Doubt it." Alita replied, a silence falling between the sisters for a brief moment as they cleaned up their decks. "Did you hear?"
"About what?" Sophie asked.
"About Seto Kaiba being beaten in a duel." Alita responded. Sophie looked at her sister.
"By who?" Sophie asked.
"I think his name was Yugi? He's a student in my class... I think." Alita replied, causing her sister to blink.
"Yugi Mouto? The short kid with the tri colored spiky hair?" Sophie asked. "There's no way he beat Kaiba of all people, Kaiba's the regional champion and the favorite to win the nationals."
"Soph, Kaiba dropped out of the tournament after that defeat. That's why the news of his defeat is spreading." Alita told her.
"Just because he dropped out of the tournament doesn't mean he lost in a duel... "
"But when he's never dropped out otherwise?" Alita asked.
"Just drop it, Alita. Besides, I've dropped out of tournaments before." Sophie reminded her sister.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but..." Alita started, but cut herself off. She knew going any further would bring up memories that neither of the girls wanted to revisit. "Maybe it's time for you to make a comeback."
"Or maybe it's time you take the dueling stage." Sophie pointed out. "Alita, as much as I love dueling, I have Bethany to think about. Who'd watch her while I'm away at tournaments? You're at school most of the time, Auntie Aya's in Egypt for God knows how long, Mom's been gone for 2 years, Grandma Himiko can barely keep track of her cat without help..."
"What about Kensa?" Alita asked, referring to their cousin.
"Kensa's only qualification to be a baby sitter is that she used to be a baby. Besides, Kensa's the one helping Grandma when she's not with Auntie Aya." Sophie deadpanned.
"Auntie?" Bethany's voice broke the silence, her hazel eyes looking at her Aunt. "Why can't you partipate in a turnmet?" She asked. Alita opened her mouth, but her sister interjected before Alita could say anything.
"If you're about to say you're not good enough, you are... You just have to have a ton more confidence in your ability as a duelist." Sophie encouraged her sister, her voice expressing her confidence in her younger sister.
“I’m good because you taught me, but good enough to be in a tournament? I think not.” Alita replied. Sophie opened her mouth to argue, but before she could say a word, her phone rang. Sophie sighed softly.
“Can you...”
“Yeah. We’ll continue this conversation later.” Alita told her sister. Bethany looked up at her mother.
“Mama, do you hafta go?” Bethany asked. Sophie smiled at her daughter, pressing a soft kiss to the child’s temple.
“Afraid so, but I’ll be back before you even notice I’m gone, I promise. Be a good girl for Auntie while I’m at work, okay?” Sophie asked. Bethany nodded, silently promising. Sophie smiled, snuggling her daughter in one more hug before giving her to Alita. “I’ll be back soon.”
“Be safe.” Alita told her sister, using the send off their mother had used to tell them as children.
“Be safe, Mommy!” Sophie glanced over her shoulder at the two girls as Bethany copied her Aunt. With a soft smile and a wave, Sophie left their home to work. “Auntie?” Alita turned her attention to her niece once the door had closed.
“Yes, baby Bee?” Alita asked.
“Can we wach duels?” Bethany asked in response, her hazel eyes blinking owlishly up at Alita.
“Hmm... I think there might be a tournament on TV right now... Shall we turn on the TV and find out?”
“Yeah!” Bethany threw her little arms into the air, making Alita giggle as she carried her niece to the living room and sat down on the couch. She set down Bethany down next to her, the little one excitedly kicking her legs as Alita turned on the TV to find the finals of a championship match. She sat back next to her niece, easily recognizing the two duelists on the screen.
¨Good evening Duel fans and our ten million viewers at home, and welcome to the Duel Monsters Duel Dome, where tonight, the Duel Monsters Regional Championship will be decided. Of the 200 duelists that have competed in this marathon tournament, only 2 competitors remain standing. Put your cards together for Weevil Underwood, the Bug Brawler.¨ The announcer introduced the first of the finalists. Weevil Underwood hadn´t changed much since the last time Alita had seen him, still having the same turquoise bowl haircut and the same blue eyes that seemed to be magnified by a pair of yellow, insect shaped glasses. A smirk was on his face, a smirk that Alita wanted to wipe off his face. Bethany pointed at the boy on screen, looking at her Aunt.
¨Who´s that, Auntie?¨ Bethany asked.
¨That, my little niece, is a bug named Weevil Underwood.¨ Alita answered. Bethany scrunched her little nose in disgust. If there was one thing Bethany already didn´t like, it was bugs.
¨Eeew.¨ Bethany mumbled, though she was loud enough for her Aunt to hear, the teenager having to hide her giggles.
¨Aaaaand his opponent, the number one ranked Rex Raptor, Dino Duelist!¨ The announcer continued, finishing the introductions of the finalists. Rex Raptor was among the duelists Alita had heard of, but never met in person. She took a mental note of his blueish purple eyes and noticed that he had brown hair with the hair near his forehead dyed purple.
¨Rawr.¨ Bethany growled out, the tone in Bethany´s voice making Alita snicker. She had sounded grumpy, and with Bethany being only 2 years old, the roar that Bethany had released was nothing more than hilarious to the 16 year old. Once she had gotten control of her laughter, Alita continued watching the duel with her niece. She remembered tournaments where Sophie had dueled against Weevil and had come close to loosing against him several times. But, if there was one thing Sophie was good at, it was comeback victories.
¨All right, Weevil, consider yourself dinosaur chow!¨ Rex told Weevil as he played a card.
¨Oooh, and Raptor plays the strongest card in his deck, the terrible Two-Headed King Rex! Looks like this match could be over right here, right now!¨ The announcer commented.
"Your move." Rex told Weevil. Weevil chuckled.
"And all I have is this weak little bug." Weevil replied.
"Weevil Underwood counters with a basic insect card!" The announcer exclaimed excitedly.
"King Rex, let's take this championship... Stomp 'em!" Rex ordered his monster. But, just as the dinosaur moved to squash Weevil's bug, the Bug Brawler's laughter echoed through the room.
"You've attacked your way right into my trap. But then, how could your tiny dinosaur brain know that when an enemy attacks, my Vortex activates?!" Weevil taunted.
"Oh no! It's a trap card!" Rex shouted, realizing his mistake way too late.
"Which totally traps your King Rex in its inescapable embrace." Weevil explained the trap card as it took effect. A glance at her niece told Alita that the little one was excited. The little girl was on the edge of her seat, her eyes wide as she watched the duel on screen.
"No, my King Rex!" Rex cried.
"And while he's trapped there, I'll upgrade my basic insect by giving him Armor with Laser Cannon. Not such a weak little bug after all, hmm? Attack!" Weevil ordered, making the final move of the game as his bug defeated Two-Headed King Rex and destroyed Rex's remaining life points. "Your King Rex is... extinct."
"Oh, beaten by a bug." Rex commented as he hung his head. Alita glance at Bethany to see the toddler blinking owlishly at the screen, in shock of what she had just witnessed.
"A stunning upset by Weevil Underwood, our new champion!" The announcer finished off the duel by announcing Weevil as the winner.
"And that, my little niece is why you don't underestimate your opponent." Alita told her, standing up to make dinner.
"Auntie, who's that?" Bethany asked after a moment had passed. Alita poked her head out of the kitchen to see a man on TV with long silver hair that covered his left eye, the right eye being brown in color.
"That's Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters." Alita explained. Bethany tipped her little head to one side.
"Pegsis?" Bethany echoed her Aunt. Alita snickered, resisting the urge to laugh at her little niece.
"Close enough, baby Bee." Alita replied, making Bethany giggle.
Meanwhile, Sophie was hard at work at the cafe she worked at. Her hair was pinned half up, her feet gracefully navigating the small space with ease as she swept the floors. Having just taken care of a long line of thirsty customers by herself, she was understandably exhausted, but with mere hours left in her shift, she didn't have time to rest or even think about being tired. She smiled softly when she heard familiar notes playing over the speaker. While "Waiting For Superman" didn't exactly apply to her anymore, she couldn't help but remember the spark of hope it used to give her... Before she knew what she was doing, she started singing along and dancing to the song as she swept the floors. Sophie smiled and shook her head as the song ended, using the dust pan to pick up the dirt she had collected from sweeping before carrying the dustpan to the trash can to get rid of it. Letting out a deep breath, she put the broom and dustpan away in their proper places, unaware that the day held something different in store for her. After all, fate was a funny thing...
Ding! The door the to cafe swung open, the little bell above the door jingling in response. Hearing the bell, Sophie dusted herself off and made her way back to the main lobby to greet the newcomer. But, she nearly froze in her place when she saw just who had come into the little cafe. His sapphire orbs were just as ice cold as she remembered them, his chesnut brown hair hadn't changed either, for that matter... If there was one thing that had changed, it was his outfit. He wasn't wearing the Domino High uniform like the last times she had seen him... He was wearing a high collared, dark teal button up shirt, matching pants, a white belt around his waist and black shoes, all topped off with indigo blue trench coat. The one and only Seto Kaiba was standing in front of her in all his 6 foot one inch tall glory... But it wasn't like he'd remember her at all. "What can I get going for you?" Sophie asked, her face neutral and her voice professional. He was silent for a split second, his eyes regarding her. She knew that look all too well... The look he used when sizing someone up. She resisted the urge to quirk an eyebrow at him in question, remaining patient with him... For the moment.
"I've never seen you here before." He finally spoke as his eyes locked onto Sophie's own, his voice as raspy as she remembered.
"Well, I'm not new, I've been working here for two years. Obviously, whenever you've stopped in, I've had a day off." At least from this job... Sophie continued in her head. The male before her scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Obviously." He replied, looking away for a split second before returning his gaze to her. "I'll take a Blue Eyes Frappicino: Vanilla Bean frappicino with a pump of bluberry acai with blue rasberry drizzle."
"Got it." Sophie took his order. Once the payment was set up, she turned her back to him to make the drink.
"You aren't gonna ask my name?" He asked.
"Okay, first off, Giraffe Boy, there's literally no one else here but you and me. Second, even if it wasn't just us, I know who you are. You're Seto Kaiba. Champion duelist who has a habit of using the legendary Blue Eyes White Dragon in his deck, CEO of a multi-billion dollar gaming company... I'd be surprised if there was somebody in the world who didn't know your name." Sophie countered before starting the blender. Her hands worked nimbly as she continued making the drink. "So, who's usually here when you come here?"
"Sojiro." Seto answered, the sound of her boss's name making Sophie pause for a split second before shaking off her shock. She should have known...
"Figures it would have been him... Everybody just calls him Boss around here." Sophie replied. "He owns this place, after all." A hum left the male before it fell quiet for a moment, the music on the radio filling the room through the ceiling speakers. He must have been watching her work, because the next thing she heard from him was:
"Hey, hey, I said one!" Sophie clentched her jaw, biting her temper and ignoring his complaints. Despite his protests, she finished the drink and set it in front of him. The two exchanged glares. "I asked for one pump of blueberry acai, not..."
"Blue Eyes, do yourself a favor: Shut up and try it." Sophie told him, her tone warning him not to test her.
"No, you made it wrong..."
"Tough luck, I'm not remaking it." Sophie replied, interrupting him. His eye twitched, but he relented, taking a sip of the drink while he glared at her. But just as he was about to complain, he closed his mouth, blinking. Once, twice... He took another sip of it, his gaze returning to her. A smirk of triumph was on her face, her arms crossed over her chest and her hip popped. The glare returned to his face and he turned to leave the little cafe, the drink he had previously claimed to not want still in his hand. "You're welcome, Giraffe Boy!" Sophie shouted after him.
"I'm not thanking you! For the record, I don't like it! I'm just not wasting it, Coffee Bean!" He shouted back at her, the nickname causing her to raise an eyebrow.
"Coffee Bean? That's the best you could come up with, Blue Eyes?" Sophie asked him. He wheeled back around to face her, his trench coat flaring as he walked toward her again.
"Well, that's what I'm gonna call you until you tell me your name." He responded, towering over her 5 foot 6 inch frame. It was Sophie's turn to size him up.
"I'm half surprised you don't remember me, we've dueled against each other more than once. Anyways, better not forget it this time: it's Sophie Nakamura." She answered him, her gaze never leaving his own. She saw a glint of recognition in his eyes at the sound of her name, but he scoffed, looking away from her.
"Sophie..." She heard him mumble under his breath. She smirked.
"That's my name, don't wear it out, Blue Eyes." Sophie teased, winking at him. He rolled his eyes before leaving the cafe, the female shaking her head. "Something tells me this isn't the last I'll see him..."
A few hours later, Sophie let out an exhausted sigh as she opened the front door to her apartment. She allowed her feet to slip out of the flats she had been wearing the whole day as she let her hair down. As she walked into the living area, she found a note waiting for her on the kitchen table. 'Dinner's in the microwave, Supermom. Love you and hope you had a good day. Love, your little sis and daughter.' Sophie smiled at the note and carefully walked over to the couch, peering over the top to check on her family. Cuddled in a blanket together, both Bethany and Alita were asleep, Alita's hair all over her face as she slept, her arms around the little one next to her. Sophie reached down, gently tucking the hair out of Alita's face before going to the kitchen and warming up her food. After she finished eating, Sophie gently lifted Bethany from Alita's arms, though the little one's sleepy murmurs as she curled into her mother's chest woke the teenager up. "Come on, Ali, get to bed." Sophie whispered to her younger sister. Too tired to argue, Alita slowly got up and tiredly stumbled to bed. Sophie held her daughter close as she carried the toddler to her own room and tucking her in. Bethany's little chest gently fell and rose with her breaths her little hands slightly twitching as the toddler slept. Sophie smiled before she pressed a gentle kiss to her daughter's head, turning on the nightlight for her as she left the room to head to bed herself. Neither of the girls knew what the next day would have in store for them... But, all either of them knew was that they'd face it together...
Working on the next chapter, and I’m so excited for the fire hazard siblings reunion

“That,” Azula said evenly, “was my brother.
“Zuko?” Ty Lee’s eyes widened. “But Zuko’s- he’s dead-“
Mai didn’t bother looking surprised. “So what are you going to do about it?”
“I’m going to find him,” Azula shrugged, “and discuss his options moving forward.”
“That sounds ominous.” Ty Lee said. “Are you being ominous on purpose, or is that just another one of those things you say and they come off all intense anyway?”
“I’ll decide later.”
