First time making baklava: lowkey advice post I guess?
-> I ran out of butter 1/2 way thru, so I wound up using 5 sticks of butter instead of the listed 2 1/2.
->If you like strong cinnamon flavor, up the cinnamon because the base line is very subtle.
->If you are using Great Value phyllo dough: Natasha lays out a layer pattern of:
One box of Great Value phyllo does not have enough sheets for this; I ended up with layers of 10-5-5-11 thickness. So what we should probably take away from this is that if the recipe calls for a specific brand, it's probably for this reason and you should research the product if you absolutely need to sub (price, convenience/availability, etc).
->I needed a whole lemon to get the right amount of lemon juice. The syrup smelled and tasted great even before pouring over the baklava. And it was enough to soak thru, even though I had cut some pretty big pieces (which I did get concerned about during baking, when it was too late to do anything about it).
