The Lukashenko regime continues to torture Roman Protasevich psychologically (his family and colleges also supsect physical torture).
Protasevich recently appeared in a television interview where he denounced opposition leaders and their organisations, claimed to respect Lukashenko, and burst into tears at the end.
In a separate interview, Protasevich’s father said that he felt deep pain, to the point that he could not describe his feelings. Many human rights organisations say this interview was produced under duress: it is psychological torture.
Meanwhile, the BBC presenter admits that Lukashenko’s regime does not appear to have relented, following rounds of protests and the latest flight restrictions.
Well, the reason is simple. Despite much outrage, European nations have failed (yet again) to apply Magnitsky Sanctions against Lukashenko’s sponsors-- just as they have failed (yet again) to apply the same against Putin’s sponsors.
Until these countries target Luakshenko’s money, the regime will continue to behave with impunity, as Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has repeatedly stated.
I would also like to point out that Protasevich’s girlfriend, Sophia Sapega, also remains under arrest in Belarus.
