DnD concept: the party’s warlock and the party’s priest never talk about their patrons. Ever. They never protest that something is outside the domain or that whatever the party wants to do will impact their relationship with their deity.

Eventually it comes out that the warlock’s patron is actually a traditionally light god, and the priest’s deity is actually a traditionally dark god. Both of them wound up with their classes as a mistake, either their own, their deities, or a afterlife bureaucratic filing error, so both of their deities/patrons basically ignore them, or throw power at them like a disinterested parent shoving money at you to get you to shut up and go away.

Give Monks d12 Hit Dice

Barbarians are peak physical warriors. They are incredibly strong and resilient, and their hit dice reflect this.

Monks are peak physical warriors. They undergo rigorous physical training to master martial arts and reach peak performance.... and have a d8 hit dice?

Even mechanically, Barbarians and Monks get a lot of similar features- both get unarmored movement bonuses, unarmored defense, ways to increase their DPR with a secondary resource, and their expected damage output is even pretty close across all levels. 

But despite this, Monk’s have the lowest hit dice of any Martial class.

Lizardfolk use active verbs to describe the world, and in general use different naming conventions when speaking.

Because of this, “Does this bring joy?” is a logical question for a Lizardfolk to ask.

The two common tropes of Mages are super old wizards with long beards, and scrappy young prodigy Wizards/Sorcerers/Warlocks, but can we get some Middle Aged Wizards?

Like imagine:

A wizard who’s job is the study of arcane sources, and who has been doing that for several years

A mage having a midlife crisis over whether they made the right choice of the school of magic they chose to study 

A Wizard who has graduated from a Wizards college and started their own apprenticeship

Wizard researchers who venture out into the wilderness searching for something 

Mages who have retired early and now pursue other interests 

A band of mages who work together to write modern introductory textbook tomes on magic

Wizarding Styles

There are three common archetypes of Wizards:

1. Old, wizened Wizards with a lot of experience under their belt. Generally tend to use a variety of spells for different situations, rather than trying to brute force with a couple powerful spells.

2. The young prodigy. Similar to the old wizard, but much more limited in their knowledge. Have a few trick aces up their sleeves, but often end up using the few spells they do know in creative or unexpected ways to solve problems

3. The grunt. These are the most limited in the variety of their spell usage, and often use only a couple favored spells. Instead of using their spells in unconventional ways like the prodigy, they use the raw power of their spells to brute force problems. 

I have also seen a ‘Tank’ or ‘Muscle’ type of Wizard that surrounds them self in magic like a suit of armor, or that uses their magic to amplify their physical capability. Think Gaara or Rock Lee from Naruto respectively. I consider this to be a subtype of the ‘Grunt’ Wizards.

For an example of the differences between these types of Wizards: If there is a locked door, the wizened Wizard might use a spell to unlock the door. A prodigy wizard might try to concentrate fire magic to remove the hinges from the door. The grunt will likely go “f-- this” and try to blow down the door outright.
