The implicitly understood mechanics of Homescapes allow it to set up fairly complex levels without overwhelming the player or setting goals that are too extreme for them to complete. Perhaps the best example of this is the introduction of carpetting the blank spaces in a level- by requiring the player to make matches of any kind that are intersecting a carpet-covered space in order to proceed, the game completely changes how they interact with it, while still leaving the core actions the player is performing intact.
