Okay, here is a rant. I am going to connect two points in this post and relate them to each other, even though they aren't specifically related. (Book banning and anti-shipping) This may be an unpopular opinion. That's fine. I'm gonna be low-key aggressive about this because I feel passionately that this is common sense.
I don't think people know what proshipping is in general.
Saw a post that essentially said, "I believe everyone should write and read whatever they want... But I don't want to read it." I hate to break this to you.... BUT YOU ARE A PROSHIPPER.
It is ironic for you, in one breath, to say "banning books is awful." And then in the next breath say, "You shouldn't be allowed to read/write that."
When you say "DONT BAN BOOKS" that means ALL forms of writing. Whether you agree with it or not. That means the Christian Bible and the Quran. And that means books about gay dudes slobbering and humping each other. You cannot advocate for one without advocating for both.
You can't pick and choose what is censored. Either literature is censored. Or it is not. Once you censor ONE THING, literature is therefore censored. PERIOD. You can't censor things "a little bit". You, specifically, can't pick and choose what is acceptable or not for ME to read. I alone get to decide that.
When you start picking and choosing what written material is "acceptable", you are no better than the people screaming to take gay shit out of the public library. (Not to compare gayness to taboo topics like incest. However, gayness IS a taboo topic to many.)
Proshipping literally just means people should be able to read and write what they want. Period. Whether it's "vanilla" or "disgusting", I think you people need to realize this is fictional. If a proshipper ends up being weird, they were weird to begin with.
Policing what others write and read is WEIRD. You are not better then me because you read "normal gay smut". We are both fucking losers so don't high road me. You people are the equivalent of, "Well ... I read Shakespeare so.... I read REAL literature ...." Meanwhile ... We're both English majors. At the same university. Do you get what I'm saying? Essentially, we are both sitting here on tumblr.com. Do not point your fingers at me when your hands are dirty, too.
There is no morally "good" or "bad" fanfiction. It is all fiction and you people need to go outside. Please police what I read and see how much I don't give a single, solitary fuck. I genuinely could never call myself "anti" ANY written, creative, artistic, FICTIONAL work.
The entitlement is wild to me. "I don't like this work so don't write it." How about you don't fucking read it then, you stupid, brain-dead, bitch? Not everything on the Internet is catered and made for you, specifically. And NOBODY is obligated to take down their content because you don't like it. You gotta realize that ASAP. (And before you say, "but, Bella, I don't want to STOP anybody from posting their work, I just don't want to see it." THEN YOU ARE A PROSHIPPER.)
"Well, what's good about reading dirty things like that?" THAT'S NOT THE QUESTION. CAN I DO IT? YES? GOOD.
I could be reading the equivalent of steaming shit on the sidewalk!! IDCCC Since people could put their finger in mud and draw symbols in the dirt, people have been writing about SEX. That won't ever, ever change. Prudish bitch. Your GRANDMA, for fucks sake, was reading books about men stealing women from their deranged husbands and fucking them senseless. The Bible, the book a lot of you follow very closely, has mentions of incestual activities. They can ban that, too, if they wanted.
The day that I stop reading things that make people uncomfortable, I wouldn't read anything. Once they take gay shit off the shelves, they will pull books about the Holocaust and Anne Frank, about Dr. MLK Jr's death, about religious freedom, about slavery; real-life topics that people DESERVE to STAY KNOWLEDGEABLE about.
Again, you cannot advocate for "all" literature and then say, "well... except this one...." Not how it works.
