PMD: Expanded Sky version 2.0.0 - DUSK Version is now live!
(For context to those who haven't seen the original post, this is a PMD EoS romhack that adds all starters from gens 5-9 into the game as heroes/partners)
No additional starters yet, but a long-awaited change is finally here:
All starters are now available as heroes and partners in one version, with no gender-locking!
That's right - you can pick your hero and partner's gender without it factoring into which Pokémon you can pick, and the MIDDAY/MIDNIGHT divide is no more. Welcome to DUSK!
This comes at the cost of the quiz unfortuntely, but does mean even more starters can be added in the future (A few planned are Hisuian Zorua, Yamper and Espurr!) without having to lose any. Starters formerly removed such as Riolu and Skitty are now back - in fact, on top of new starters, all starters from all PMD Games (excluding the wiiware titles) are selectable as both heroes and partners!
(New hero/partner selection courtosey of Chesyon's Starter Menu Tool, go check it out!)
A bunch of additional sprites and portraits have been updated to match with the PMD Sprite Repository, and all starters can now evolve fully save for the Quaxly line - Quaxwell doesn't have sprites yet, so Quaxly now evolves into Quaqaval.
Finally, it was recently pointed out to me that Moonblast was doing damage of the user's primary type rather than Fairy type, which was caused by some strangeness with the move ID I'd assigned to it, so I've moved both Moonblast and Disarming Voice to new move ids to tidy things up a little. This shouldn't affect new players, but if you're continuing from an old MIDDAY or MIDNIGHT save file and you had one of these moves, you may notice you now have Milk Drink or a move with a name comprised of symbols instead. This can be resolved by learning Moonblast/Disarming Voice at the Electivire Link Shop.
To update to the new version, patch a clean copy of EoS with deltapatcher (or one of the alternatives provided in the readme and original post). If you have an existing Expanded Sky save file, rename the .sav file to match the name of the .nds file after you've patched it.
"Oh boy, I can't wait to find out what PMD Expanded Sky starter I am!"
I'm sure I'll get a lonely or timid nature pokemon, maybe docile or hasty if I get the right question set. That's what I usually end up with most times I take the test... I wonder what it will be this time that I---
---Who said this was true. Who's claiming I, the most Type-A for Anxious person I know, am in any way chill.
Well, this is certainly new. I don't think I've ever gotten a relaxed personality type before. Isn't that result tied to vulpix in the original version of Sky? Huh. As much as I love vulpix, I don't think that's much of a fit for my personality. I'm curious to see what they replaced that option with for this mod. Maybe a pikachu or a bulbasaur or a...
Thanks to @pyromaniac-cyndaquil and their Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Expanded Sky rom, I can play as a puppy on my 100% totally clean unmodded legit 3DS and my totally clean unmodded legit copy of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky :>
im playing pmd expanded sky during the treeshroud forest segment and. found a secret bazaar. imagine how fucking awkward this would be for you all and grovyle.
...And it's a hotfix patch! Especially important if you use the Popplio line or Sylveon.
(for those unfamiliar, expanded sky is an explorers of sky romhack that adds extra playable pokemon from gens 5-9)
The move id reshuffling done in the first DUSK release was missing some key additional data, which meant... Moonblast and Disarming Voice weren't actually doing anything at all any more. Oops.
This has now been fixed, and both have new move animations! Additionally, Moonblast now hits all enemies in the current room rather than just those within a one-tile range. Definitely remember to update if you're using either of these Pokémon!
If I don't run into any further bugs, the next update after this should include new starters, so look forward to that!

It's been a lot of work over a lot of time but I think I can finally share this...
PMD:EoS, but with all of the starters!
Introducing PMD: Expanded Sky!
This is a public mod available to download now! It adds in all starters from unova all the way to paldea, as well as zorua, axew and rockruff, and allows evolving eevee into sylveon.
Speaking of which, fairy type has been patched into the game! Disarming Voice and Moonblast have been included.
As of version 2.0.0 (DUSK version), the quiz has been removed in favour of removing the gender lock and making all starters available without having to split the mod.
Several regional variants have been added! Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak, Hisuian Typhlosion, Hisuian Samurott and Hisuian Decidueye are now available as potential evolutions for their respective base stages.
Partners across both rescue team, super, gates and all three versions of explorers are available too, including Cubone, Munchlax, Machop, Vulpix, Riolu, etc
Sprites and portraits are courtesy of the brilliant PMD Sprite Repository and the many incredible artists who contribute to it!
Credits for all improvement patches, sprites and portraits are included in the download, as well as an explanation on how to patch the game and the full starter list.
The mod is split in two versions to accommodate all the partners - MIDDAY version and MIDNIGHT version. The download includes both, as well as the tool required to patch your game! You'll need a clean US copy of pmd eos at hand.
A full list of moves learned by newly added Pokémon can be found here, as well as info on how to evolve them and their IQ groups.
If you run into any issues, feel free to drop me an ask or DM and I'll see how I can help/what I need to fix!
You can find the download for this rom hack here!
Edits/updates noted under the cut:
(27/04/23)
The overall mod now has a name - expanded sky! Reflected earlier on in the post.
I've been informed that the included patching tool (XDelta) doesn't work on mac, and after some digging around and discussions in dms we found this tool works for Mac instead.
Added graphics to the post displaying which heroes and partners are part of the hack.
(11/05/23)
Added link to learnset compilation for all new pokémon.
(17/05/23) Version 1.1.0 has been released!
Sobble is now a starter, replacing Skitty (Skitty is still accessible by downloading v1.0.0 on the download page). Sobble is also now a partner in MIDNIGHT.
Zorua/Zoroark's moveset has been tweaked slightly
Base forms of all new starters can now be found in Oran Forest, and can be recruitable in the post-game. The new fire starters can also be found in Giant Volcano.
Extra portraits and sprites were added for Cubone, Psyduck and Machop. Like the rest of the new assets in this mod, these were imported from the PMD Sprite Repository, and credits are on the title screen and in the readme.txt.
Extra credits + more in-depth instructions for patching the game included in the readme.txt.
(18/05/23)
Added a link to a tutorial on swapping out heroes for others already existing in the game.
(22/05/23) - Version 1.1.1 has been released!
Fixed genders for female starter options on the quiz.
Updated Fuecoco to use new portraits and sprites. (Credits to Garbage)
(23/05/23) - Version 1.1.2 has been released!
Female starters from gens 5-9 can now evolve correctly (save for starters who don't have evolutions in the game yet - these are listed in the text file in the download)
Rockruff can now evolve, and Midnight Lycanroc's evolution method has been fixed to use the Lunar Ribbon as intended.
(15/06/23) - Version 1.2.1 has been released!
In 1.2.0, a second version of the mod was included in the zip compatible with melon emulator, and potentially others that were having issues with saving.
Fairy gummis were also made available as mission rewards and shop items.
There's a couple more things that can be seen in the changelog including bugfixes, but the main other thing promised was that Froakie and Litten can now evolve directly into Greninja and Incineroar. Due to an evolution flag not being set this ended up untrue, but has been fixed in 1.2.1.
This post claimed dazzling gleam is in the game, but it should've said disarming voice.
(10/03/24) - Version 1.3.0 has been released!
Dusk Lycanroc, Drizzile, Inteleon, Grookey, Axew and Fraxure have been added, as well as Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak an Hisuian Typhlosion.
Axew replaces Shinx in the hero roster, and Grookey replaces Riolu.
Additional portraits and sprites added for starter evolutions, including vanilla starters. Sleep animations have been copied over to EventSleep/Laying/Wake animations if missing.
Greninja erroneously had the same moveset as Froakie. This has now been fixed.
Credits are no longer displayed on the title screen.
Sprite, portrait and patch credits can now be viewed by talking to a Cyndaquil NPC on the crossroads.
Evolution help can also be accessed by talking to this same NPC.
(23/05/24) - Version 1.3.1 has been released!
The uhh. Grovyle problem. Yeah. That should be fixed.
(Grovyle was missing several sprites as a side effect of trying to add new ones, due to his unique setup in the vanilla game as such an important npc. His sprites should now be reverted to a functional state, rather than leaving him to walk fowards on the spot all the time).
An issue present from the start that caused the game to freeze while advancing floors in dungeons occasionally should now be resolved.
🆕 (25/08/25) - Version 2.0.0 has been released!
DUSK version is out! Mod is no longer split into MIDDAY and MIDNIGHT versions, and all starter choices are now available in the same version of the mod. The quiz has been removed to accommodate this, and starters are no longer gender-locked.
All starters can now evolve fully except for Quaxly - who can now evolve into Quaquaval directly. All current regional evolutions for existing starters have been added.
Moved Moonblast and Disarming Voice to new move ids to resolve issues. Existing saves with these moves on their pokémon may find they have been replaced with Milk Drink and a move with symbols as the name - this can be resolved at the link shop.
(for those who missed it, this is a pmd eos mod that adds starters from gens 5-9)
There's a lot of new pokemon this time but most importantly...
Grookey finally joins the roster, as does Axew! All starters are finally here!
Sobble's evolutions are also now both fully implemented, as are several regional evolutions! Pikachu can now evolve into Alolan Raichu, Cubone can evolve into Alolan Marowak, and Cyndaquil can evolve into Hisuian Typhlosion. Their regular evolutions are all still accessible as usual, but their other forms are also available as a branch evo.
Evolution info, IQ groups and movesets can now be found in this spreadsheet for ease of use.
A bunch of extra sprites and portraits for starter evolutions have been pulled in from the PMD Sprite Repository! To go with this, credits have been taken off the title screen and added to a new Cyndaquil NPC on the crossroads!
In-game evolution help can also be found in this NPC's menu.
There's been a couple of extra minor changes, such as fixes to Greninja's moveset, but further info can be found in the original post, the txt included in the download, and the download page.
