The sun had barely risen over Lumiose city when warm rays of sunshine crept through the gaps of your drawn curtain and gently kissed your face. You groaned softly, eyes flickering under the heavy lids as you retreated into the depths of your blankets, tangling and wrapping yourself further in a cocoon of silk as you rolled to the other side of the bed to escape the light. You blinded groped around the empty spot beside you, the sheets still lingering with warmth to signal that your partner was already awake. Another disgruntled noise stirred in the back of your throat as your head popped out of the top of the sheets.
“Corbeau?” you called, voice gruff and thick as a result of your deep slumber.
There was only a brief pause of silence before your bedroom door creaked open, followed by the sound of footsteps.
“I’m still here” Corbeau responded.
You hummed in content when you felt the bed dip, the swell of your chubby cheek squished into the comforting embrace of your fluffy pillow. Corbeau adjusted the cufflinks of his suit before reaching for his shoes under the bed.
“I have a few meetings to attend to this morning, but I’ll be free for lunch around 1” Corbeau said as he slipped his shoes on.
He stood from the bed, the mattress springing back into place as the soft clack of his heels scuffed against the wooden floors. He stopped in front of the full body mirror in the corner of the room, adjusting his tie and flicking the lint off the elbow of his jacket.
“Then we have dinner reservations at your favourite restaurant. Don’t forget to dress up. And don’t be late.”
When you didn’t immediately respond, his bright, orange eyes flickered to your reflection in the mirror. You barely stirred. He pushed the rim of his glasses further up his nose.
“Are you still awake?” he asked.
An affirmative noise rumbled in your chest, your hand creeping out of the covers as you briefly waved at him.
“Lunch at 1. Dinner at 6” you replied, voice muffled into your pillow.
Corbeau stalked closer to your side of the bed and peered down at you. You were not a morning person and he doubted you were going to get up until the sun had fully risen over Lumiose city. This was your usual morning routine. Corbeau would get up before sunrise and get ready for work while you were still in bed. Though, this morning, he didn’t have time to make you a warm drink in advance. Not that it really mattered this time. He silently mused to himself that he could picture you falling back to sleep as soon as he left for work. With a sharp inhale through his nose, Corbeau leaned closer.
“And?” he prompted.
“Don’t forget to dress up” you replied, repeating his earlier words.
A soft smile tilted Corbeau’s lips as he placed his hand on your head. Your soft locks of hair curled around his calloused fingertips as he pat your head.
“Good girl.”
You preened from his attention, even though you were still half asleep and likely to forget what was transpiring later in the day. Corbeau brushed wisps of your hair off your face as he leaned down, close enough for you to smell the spice of his cologne clinging to the collar of his jacket. His lips brushed against your temple in a chaste kiss.
“I’ll see you later.”
Your long lashes fluttered bashfully over the swell of your round cheeks, a smile tilting your lips as you rubbed your face into your pillow. Corbeau straightened up, adjusting his jacket one last time before turning around to leave. Just as he walked through the bedroom door, he heard your soft voice calling back to him.
“Have a good day at work.”
With one last smile that he kept to himself, he was off.
