Request for anon: could I request a Prompto x reader fic where reader gets hurt and Prom takes care of them? But reader doesn't feel like they deserve his love and care and attention and tries to push him away but he isnt having it?
"Careful, careful," the man said, gently lowering her so she could sit.
She hissed, still holding her side. It stung, everything hurt and she was covered in blood. The man on the other side let go, signing something to which she nodded.
He took out his knife and cut a slit in her shirt, one large enough to expose the severe gash that sat on her side. She let her head fall back onto to the wall behind her, staring blankly at the ceiling.
"Baby-" a voice gasped out, she lifted her head. Prompto head poked into the room before he walked on. "Oh gods- you're alive."
"I'm alive," you groaned, giving a weak thumbs up.
"Bite down, princess. This is gonna hurt." The older one said, holding a rag. She took it and put it in her mouth. She gagged and closed her eyes, trying to slow her breathing. Prompto took her hand and when the alchohol was poured onto her stomach, she gripped it tightly. She groaned into the rag, too tired to bother trying to keep quiet.
They set the bottle down, for a moment the stinging subsided. She looked at the ceiling again. She heard rustling for something but she couldn't bring herself to move. She couldn't bring herself to look over to see, she was trapped and slowly fading.
The pain starting again, this time worse than before, at least it felt that way. It wasn't long before she faded out.
She woke up hours later, a figure hovering over her. "Prom?"
"Hey, how are you feeling?" He asked softly, taking the wash cloth off her forehead.
"Like shit." She mumbled, trying to sit up.
"No, no I'll be okay." She tried to swat his hand away.
"I'll be okay let me get up,"
"Lay down, please. Baby we- I almost lost you. Please." He sounded desperate, he looked desperate. His eyes said everything. She wasn't sure exactly what happened but it scared him, whatever it was.
She slowly laid back, grunting softly as she did. It felt like her side was on fire.
"You have a fever," he mumbled, putting the wash cloth back on her forehead. "It's pretty high. It's should go down in the next few hours though. Maybe days. Hoping for hours though."
"You don't have to do this, you know. I'll be okay if you want to pop out."
"I know I don't have to, I want to."
"But-" she coughed, immediately gripping her side in pain. "Fuck-"
"Careful." He helped her lay back down. "No buts, okay? I'm staying and that's final."
"Prompto," she groaned. "I wasn't able to save them. I couldn't protect them."
"That's what this is about, isn't it? You don't think you deserve the help. That's why you've been fighting it."
"They all died," she whimpered, "they all died and I couldn't do anything to stop it. I don't." Hot tears fell from her eyes, she stared at the tent ceiling.
"You did everything you could-"
Perhaps that wasn't the best way to word what he was trying to say. "It's not your fault. You can't blame yourself for what happened and you shouldn't feel like you don't deserve help."
"But I don't. I don't because I let all of them die." She mumbled.
He knew she had a tendency to hold herself to unmeetable expectations. Because of this, she also had a tendency to beat herself up over things, in turn, she felt like she didn't deserve certain things until she did better. He wasn't used to this. He wasn't used to her talking about it, opening up, or blaming herself on this big of a scale. He wasn't sure if it was the fever talking or if this was how she usually felt.
"Baby," he whispered. "You did the best you could. I know you did. You fought to the very last moment. You deserve all of this. I promise you. You deserve every little bit."
She nodded slightly, eyes half lidded. Seemed as though the adrenaline had worn off and fatigue was finally taking over. She took his hand, squeezing it weakly. He kissed it gently. He didn't know if she'd ever be this open again, it's not how she usually was, but all he really wanted was for her to be okay.
