#Polychallenge - Day 0 - Why am I doing this?
Mostlynotwork is supposed to be a blog about “Life, love, relationships, polyamory, photography and other stuff that mostly isn't work.” Looking at the last year of posts, there's a couple of things that are a bit light on. So what am I going to do to try and change that? How do I get the two Ps of polyamory and photography back on my Tumblr?
Exploring the last twelve months of my Tumblr, the first thing that stands out Is there's not been a lot of photography. Part of that is down to me sharing more of my photos on Facebook. But it's probably also the case I haven't been taking as many quirky or creative photos of the world around me. That's something I need to remember to do, to help keep my overall creative energy up.
While I think the whole ‘life’ thing was covered by the posts about working with a personal coach, ‘love, relationships, polyamory’ has been a bit light on.
I did write about the poly books I read last year. As well the individual #bookbacklog posts throughout the year, I rolled up all my poly reading into my post on ‘Six books to get your started with polyamory’ .
But aside from book reviews, what did I have to say about polyamory?
‘Is allowing curiosity the key to building poly acceptance?’
‘Cos you've got to make choices’, where I discuss how poly doesn't necessarily free you up from making hard choices, it just changes what those choices are.
‘Corporate spin parading as news - cheating is not polyamory’
That doesn't feel like a lot compared to previous years. But then, things are a bit different these days.
When I started Mostlynotwork, there wasn't as many people on Tumblr writing about poly. It felt like there was more potential to be read, and to help others who were also exploring what poly meant to them.
In the early years of this Tumblr, my relationship with Rainbow was new. That meant there was probably more poly related issues for me to work through. That’s not to say I don't think about poly issues at other times, but it was a major change in my life and so there was more for me to process.
Perhaps more significantly, the poly issues I was dealing with were about the nature of poly and what it meant to me. That made them suitable for public discussion.
However my thinking about poly continues to evolve, so I've decided it's time for me to take the #polychallenge again and see if my answers have changed. Given my work schedule and the pace of my life, the fourteen day challenge might take more than fourteen days. But it will give me a writing prompt, and help put more poly back in this blog.
So consider this Day Zero of the #polychallenge, and stay tuned for the future posts.
