You know those videos of ppl who have a cold or the flu and to get rid of it they eat like whole lemons, raw ginger, onions covered in honey, etc? Yeah that's what darry does when he gets sick. He can't rlly afford to take sick days, esp not multiple in a row, so it's straight to the cabinet when he feels the slightest tickle in his throat or sniffles one too many times

I got a few:

- he uses aviator sunglasses to hide his emotions (hence why he gets the nickname Hollywood in TJ)

- he dances to release tension and emotions he can’t control

- he snores in his sleep (Paul even said it)

- his southern Tulsa accent slips the more irritated and angrier and sicker he is

- he inherited storm sickness through his dad which made the storm scene in chapter 29 so hilarious bc he didn’t know he had it until that very moment

- he lowkey has a fear of spiders (kinda projecting)

- he has a STRONG bond with his dad

- he owns a Ford (specifically a 1964 red Galaxie sedan)

- he hates the government (as he should)

- his color is brown

- he’s bisexual

- his wrist watch is his dad’s🥹

I have a hc that when Darry turned 18 he got a tribal arm band tattoo that makes no sense bc he thought it would make his arms look good

Personally, I don’t see Darry as a tattoo kind of guy. But I can see where you’re coming from. I feel like, personally to me, that’s Tim’s and Steve’s area. He reads simple to me. I’m very tired today for some odd reason, (like about to fall asleep working on chapter 30 of TJ even tho it’s 1pm kind of tired) so my brain isn’t probably making any sense, but he does seem like an aviator sunglasses guy to me. (Just picture 20 year old Darry Shaynne Curtis Jr wearing aviators in the 60s woo whee😪 I think I need to touch grass I’ve been inside his head for too long)

Projecting but Darry HATES it when people crack their knuckles (steve is constant neck cracker and it freaks him out everytime Steve cracks his jaw) or whistle it drives him up the wall

Darry was affected by Soda dropping out a lot more then he let on. He had to fight ten times harder to keep his brothers when the state found out. He didn't dare let Soda know all the added stress his dropping out brought on. Why? Because he could see day in and day out Soda going to school next to Ponyboy, head hung low knowing he was failing his classes while trying his hardest. He could see the smile on his face working on cars or using his hands to fix something broken around the house. The dread in his eyes when it was time to pick his pencil up and do homework he could never understand. So Darry let him drop out. Darry fought tooth and nail to convince the state of what he saw and knew to be true. That dropping out was in Soda's best interest. That he was truly giving Soda what he needed. It wasn't a fast or easy hill to climb, but he trudged up it until he reached the top, and he never let either brother see what it was doing to him until he crashed out the night Pony ran away and called Soda their "knuckle head brother"
