I'm on a nostalgia kick to reread and bind some old favorites and this X-Men First Class AU fic was high on the list. 

Summary:  “In his sophomore year at Columbia University, Erik, feeling slowly strangled by his mounting college debt, places an ad on a sugar daddies website. He doesn't know exactly what to expect from it, but when he's contacted by a man named Charles who seems less creepy than the other people who have responded to his profile, he decides to give it a shot. Charles is nothing like what he expected, and Erik finds himself slowly falling in love with his sugar daddy while trying to find out exactly what caused this amazing guy to buy his emotional and sexual intimacy when he clearly deserves so much more than that.”

A good chunk of the story takes place in Pittsburgh, so the color scheme had to be yellow and black.  I recently tried my hand at paste paper for the first time and had a nice black paper with a grid pattern created with a fork.  The cardstock endpapers are a very yellow grid that has been in my stash for ages.  The spine cloth was from a Book Craft Supply mystery bundle.  The pack had plenty that would work for legal quarto and smaller, but probably wouldn’t be good for making folios.

Legal quarto is such a perfect size for a book - it’s just a smidge larger than a mass-market paperback and fits nicely in the hand.  Formatted in LibreOffice Writer with Liberation Serif for the body font (it may be the default but it’s also a nice, friendly round feel) and Wolfers Stamp for the title to try to get an oxidized metal look.

And a super satisfying in-progress shot. I’m really surprised with how things lined up.

Yet another new player on r/3h who can’t stand the idea of fighting Edelgard after finishing CF as their first route. I’m so disturbed by how easily people fall for her ‘truth’.

Also re: privilege and supporting her, these are people who won’t be drafted or forced to choose military service for economic reasons, people who will never have a race riot in their neighborhood, people who don’t understand why poor people don’t just get more money and stop spending what they have on stupid shit. Anyone whose understanding of socioeconomic issues is even vaguely nuanced can see through her BS, at least I hope so…

God, you'd think the fact that 75% (or really 80% since CF is shorter) of the game being about fighting against Edelgard and being able to choose her in the first place requires multiple steps would clue people in to why people see her as a villain but nooooo, "I don't wanna fight her and she's so confident in what she says so she must be telling the truth". Smh.

And EXACTLY! Didn't Claude say something like that? "nobles start the war, but it's the commoners who suffer first"? That's exactly how it is irl. The privileged will call the shots, but it's the lower class people who have to fight for them. Do people honestly not see how Edelgard having no problem with that makes her a dangerous and terrible leader?

And Charles being really touched by this and going 'really? gosh… you know, you're the only person who’s ever said that to me!’ and Erik and Raven just freeze. ⊙‿⊙✿

Curve Fitting by kianspo The weird thing is, Charles always introduces Raven as his sister, but he never calls Erik his brother. Erik would be bothered, except he prefers not to think of Charles as his brother, either. He can’t figure it out for four years, and then suddenly he can. Or. A non-powered AU in which Sharon Xavier never remarries, and Charles 'adopts' not only Raven, but Erik too.

I started shipping him with Iris after Talcott’s descriptions of their relationship/dynamic in WoR. He’s WAAAAY too old for her, and there’s a lot of baggage, but that’s why I like it? I’ve always been into mentor/student flavored relationships as long as the student isn’t ‘owo ur so wise and I can never compete’ then it gets sketch for me.

I see what you mean, you like the mentor/student relationship as long as it doesn’t bleed into overt hero worship. I like it too! That’s why I like to write Cor. I feel like the best relationships is when the ‘mentor’ can scold or criticize, but in a way that makes the student feel determined, they want to do better, they want to improve, in a way that makes the mentor proud.

And of course, student surpassing the mentor and student saving the mentor is always soo easy to win me over.

Anyway I think the age difference makes people uncomfortable but I don’t think there’s no healthy way to ship something, you can learn how to find a way and go the extra mile. A 30 year age difference is surprising, but I’ve seen older age gaps in real life, so who am I to judge fiction?

At the same time, you can ship unhealthy things too, either in a healthy way, or in a totally unhealthy way. This website doesn’t lend shippers to do that, because they can’t seem to separate fiction and reality, and it’s honestly scary.(The people who are like, if you ship this and this and you like this and this dynamic you are toxic by default, just like the real life bad thing!!!! Those people need to get out more.) It’s weird that we had an understanding that people could write darkfics, but now it’s just Banned on this site.

tl;dr: I mentioned I felt awkward about shipping younger people with Cor, but you know what? I’m doubling down. It’s fine. Innocent ships, familial relationships, toxic ‘daddy issue’ relationships, “problematic” unhealthy dynamics? I don’t mind. Ship what you like.
