ok basically:
Souls are source dragon energy.
Ras killed someone and used their soul to creat a Source Dragon Icon
Thunderfang harnessed the soul energy from the Well of the Lost, a pool that was filled with Source Dragon Energy.
That's the first part, just that souls are magic and Source Dragon-y.
The more important part is about the Nether-Space.
The most relevant way to open it is with the Blood Moon, and the only way to extract a person from the Nether-Space is an unshattered soul.
Nokt, however extracted his pals with elemental powers and the dragon horns, and we know elements r fueled by SDs too.
Riyu charges Nya and she transfers his energy to the horns to open Nether-Space.
These are ALL viable options to open Nether-Space cus they're ALL SD energy, unshattered souls, elements, and most likely Riyu, too.
Now about the Jay thing, we know Source Energy flows thru everyone and souls r SD nrg.
A shattered soul is corrupted and fragmented, potentially a denial of one's Source Energy as it instead reaches for ones darker capabilities.
Shattered souls can't be exchanged during the Ritual because they're not SD energy anymore, that's been replaced by Chaos energy or something along those lines
Lloyd is likely going to have to harness Life Energy and Source Energy, how to create it, withdraw it, and mend it, that's why I think he's the key to healing Jay's soul.
