(Are you new to this latest obsession? Hello! I gotchu: catch up here, here, here and here.)
rip Johnny my poor boy
Poor Johnny II
Alright, I'm almost certainly making a series of posts - hopefully it doesn't end up being a ridiculous number of them. I will also say, that I love pretty much every episode, even the ones I'm critical of (except Charter 220, I hold a grudge against that one). I'll probably be jumping around somewhat, but I'll attempt to post them mostly in order from Messin' Around onwards (anything prior, I will just scatter here and there).
In this post, I'll begin with Honest because that's what I intended to discuss in the last post. I have already mentioned how parts of this episode irk me on another post, but I think it's worth mentioning again. So, we all know that Johnny gets on an "honesty kick", and whether he was right or wrong, I do believe that he was coming from a good place. Once again, we have a case of Chet teasing Johnny about his current girlfriend's (or date's?) phone calls to the station. Admittedly, the scene with the paintbrush was amusing, but sometimes I feel like Chet really needs to cool it with the way he treats his "pigeon", and it all ends up being nothing. Poor Johnny was probably ruminating on more than he let on.
Anyway, the final rescue in Honest is what really bugs me. At the fire, Johnny goes in after a woman's baby and finds the grandfather too. He asks the grandfather if he can follow him and the grandfather says yes; he was lying. Johnny falls off the stairs when the railing breaks, and somehow still saves the child. When he comes out the mother doesn't care about that, and there is no way he didn't need some form of medical attention after breathing in that smoke and falling on his oxygen tank, she's just angry about grandpa because he's blind. Johnny didn't know, he believed grandpa. (I'm trying to be brief and I'm failing so, I'll skip ahead.) To top it off, she thanked Roy alone at the hospital, as if Johnny hadn't risked his life for her baby. I know she was frightened and probably not in the right state of mind, and I do have some sympathy but it's still not Johnny's fault. Besides, it looked like Johnny was willing to return for grandpa too.
This was also one of the times that Roy kind of pulled an "I told you so." on Johnny too. He felt bad enough about leaving the grandfather behind, I don't think he needed Roy calling it an "honorable lie". It's an honorable lie that almost got a man killed, and Johnny would have had to live with that.
I guess I lied, I won't add anymore episodes here, it's long enough. Hopefully, I don't do that with every episode I write about.
Happy birthday pookie 🥺
We don’t talk enough about how Johnny was fifth wheeling Marcia n Two-Bit and Ponyboy and Cherry
Roy DeSoto Being a Gracious, Supportive Friend, Pt 2 of 3
The guys had a call, interrupting their television watching, and at the hospital during a brief break, Dixie brings up that she saw the interview.
"Oh, uh ... I saw your interview on TV. I thought you were especially articulate, Roy."
"Thank you."
"Well, I would imagine so. Every time I started to form a thought, he'd fill in all the blank spaces before I could even uh, say anything." - Johnny
Poor Roy! 😭 lol
"Well - Johnny - it just seems to me like you were a little bit nervous." - Dixie
"Are you kidding me? I told ya - he kept cutting in on me." - Johnny
Poor Dixie! 😭 Bless her heart, she tried to put it as gently as she could.
[Note: Roy is often few of words, but he's always listening and paying attention to what's being said. Classic introvert behavior.]
"It's no crime to get tongue tied on a talk show. I was just tryin' to help you out." - Roy
"Oh. Thank you. Next time I'm goin' alone." - Johnny
Now, Johnny. LOL! That guy!
Roy tries to ease the pain. "Hey, I understand - it can be nerve-wracking in front of a camera. So I was just trying to help."
John just wasn't having it. He can be a little stubborn! Part of his charm. Dixie cracks me up. She's so easy going with these two. And at the end, after John and Roy walk off, she just smiles at them.
One more to Part 3!
dally just fully blows his smoke into everyone’s face he’s such an ass 😭😭😭😭
