Someone, let's say it's Trump: Gay people are horrible, they should be banned!

Me and most of the internet: Okay, and what about all of the orphans and kids in the foster system? What about them? Can't gay people, who can't have children, adopt them? We have a population crisis, too, just so you know. If anything, being gay is also helping the population.

Btw, I'm demisexual and those are not the only reasons why you can be gay or part of the LGBTQ community. If you love someone, you love them, plain and simple. Love is love, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, okay?

Don’t get me wrong...

I love “The Handmaids Tale” TV series a lot. Like, a lot a lot. There are a lot of interesting concepts, and its incredibly relevant to today, and the acting is great.

BUT

I don’t buy this whole “Population Crisis” bullshit. I’m not saying it was all a lie, but the TV series does a terrible job of showing that crisis outside of Gilead. Really, it looks like it was an American Population Crisis.

The only real mention of it I can think of is when the Commander and his wife visit Canada and that (UN?) Representative is telling Serena that doctors have been making progress on fixing the issue.

I want to see an outside world (from Gilead’s perspective) that is handling the problem in their own way. I want huge billboards in Toronto addressing the issue, commercials for incentives for donating sperm and eggs, radio commercials for DNA testing and donations for examination.

Its awful, but I’d also like some background statistics like “The population has dropped 14% in Canada since the crisis began.” or “Lack of new births and higher death rates have left industries scrambling to find any able person to fill job positions!” or “International travel has nearly ended due to the crisis as countries race to find a cure!”

A crisis like this should have the UN shitting themselves! I know the main focus of the series is on the Handmaids and Wives, but because this is a TV and because they have already opened the world to us in the form of Mexican Delegates visiting Gilead and Gilead officials going to Canada, I think they could use with a little more fleshing out.

Aside from that... I’m super fucking excited for a Season 3.

Gay people are saving the world.

If you think about it, gay people are pretty much saving the world through reducing the population. Like all of our pollution is due to an unsustainable growth in population (as well as laziness, lack of understanding, and human error) and the more gay people there are that choose to adopt or not have biological children the less people there are.
