You stood on the balcony of the gargantuan beach house you and Poseidon inhabited whenever you chose to roam the earth. It was somewhere in the Caribbean, tropical but with good weather whenever you two graced it with your presence.
The two of you were taking a break, as the mortals would call it. A break from your family, a break from the daily duties of a god (which were not much at all but that did not matter…), and simply just a break. All you really wanted to do was spend time with your husband.
Both of you were notorious for your… monogamy. Among the gods of your pantheon, you and Poseidon showing loyalty to each other was somehow more magical than anything else. How could the two of you, strong and powerful gods, not want to enjoy all the pleasures offered to you? You were gods for gods’ sake! You could do whatever you wanted, no strings attached.
But you had never seen it that way. Why would you want another, when Poseidon had everything you wanted? You had not even been tempted by a mortal in a long time, at least, not in that way.
And Poseidon felt the same. Though you would say he had more of a wandering eye than you did, he had never once been unfaithful to you. You had never been given cause for concern, and he had not been tempted, not really anyway.
But there was one thing that had caught your eye for a long time now. Something you were keeping close to your chest, tucked away in the deepest parts of your mind. You weren’t sure how to say it, how to voice this desire to your husband. At first, you weren’t even going to try. But as time passed and you watched the mortals more and more, the desire just grew and grew, and you knew that it was all you wanted.
“Are you alright, my love?” He asked softly, sliding his arms under yours to wrap around your waist and tug you back against him. You smiled, nodded, hummed an affirmative quietly as you leaned back into his embrace. “You have been deep in thought for far too long.” He bent down and began pressing kisses to your shoulder and up your neck.
You could feel him smile when a shiver trembled through you and you let out a soft sigh at the feeling of his beard scratching gently against your skin. He kissed all the way up to your ear before biting it lightly, teasingly, then releasing it and chuckling, the huffs of breath moving your hair a little.
You pulled out of his grip just enough to turn around. His hands settled on your waist again as yours traversed up his arms and down over his chest before resting there. You rubbed him there a little, gazing into his eyes for a moment.
“Will you tell me what you were thinking about?” He asked gently, trying not to pry but hoping you would open up.
“Yes,” you responded, but you didn’t meet his eyes. You fiddled with the necklace he wore, turning the pendant this way and that. Poseidon’s brows furrowed but he waited for you to continue speaking. What could possibly have had you so bashful? When you did finally meet his eyes, you seemed to melt a little in his arms. You smiled a little as you said “I want to have a child.”
“Oh,” the small sound left him in response, eyes widening a little. He had not expected that. You were still smiling now, though you could feel heat burning in your cheeks. Ha! A goddess blushing, the thought of that.
“We have been married millenia now, and… I love you,” you said it so simply that it made something clench in his chest. “And I have watched the mortals for so long. I-I want it that way. Their way. They have their endless cycles, birth, love, marriage, children, death. But they find so much meaning in it. They love each other, and their love creates another one of them, and they love that little mortal as well. It grows within them, then with them. I want a little bit of that, the way they do it. Just for us. ”
Poseidon looked down at you, caressing one of your cheeks, before he bent and kissed you. It was long and firm, and he only pulled away after your hands began to flutter at his sides. He looked into your eyes with the gentlest smile you had ever seen, and your eyes filled with tears.
“Whatever you wish for, I will grant you. But this wish,” he cupped your face, “this wish I share with you,” he whispered.
You laughed softly, the tears spilling from your eyes as you nodded. You leaned forward and kissed him again, running the tips of your fingers over his beard as he wrapped his arms tighter around you and lifted you off the ground. You huffed out a surprised laugh against his mouth, doing your best to wrap your legs around his waist despite the dress you wore.
“Come,” he said loudly, “even us gods must put in a lot of effort to create a child. Perhaps multiple times,” and you threw your head back and laughed loudly as he carried you to the bed. Poseidon dropped you on the mattress, relishing in the little squeal you let out at the sudden motion, before draping himself over you.
Everything slowed down for a moment then. You gazed into each other’s eyes as you lightly caressed his face, simply smiling at him. He could only return it, his eyes full of an immeasurable amount of love.
“You are sure?” You whispered, eyebrows furrowing just the slightest. “You are sure that you want this with me?” Poseidon’s smile sweetened, and he gently pecked your lips.

cabin traditions
• dunking their heads in the toilet has become their acceptance ritual. the campers basically do it to honour/laugh at percy, but instead of an actual toilet, they just dunk them in a basin of water.
• they have a wall where every kid of poseidon has scratched their name, beginning with percy, so that when there is another occasion in which there is only one camper, they don't have to feel alone.
