So glad I'm not the only one who thought this.
This opening shot:
Reminds me so much of the heart stations from Kingdom Hearts:
Especially when you have Olivia in the center of it, like in this moment:
Initially, I didn't want to make a post about this, because it could be (maybe very likely is) just decorative stain glass that holds a passing resemblance to Kingdom Hearts' heart stations, but then I was watching a reaction video (which I will link to below) and they immediately said, "Kingdom Hearts?" upon seeing the opening shot. So then I thought, you know what, maybe it is a slight reference to the series? I'm not the only one who made that immediate connection to the imagery, so...who knows!
The fact that the image is shown with blackness all around it is also very similar to how we see heart stations shown in Kingdom Hearts as well, and the very first one we ever see in Kingdom Hearts 1 is for the Disney princesses:
I think it also why my mind went in that direction.
Along with the fact that there are so many references to Disney related IPs, series, and imagery (some subtle and some less so). The whole scene when Orville is presenting Park Planet to Olivia seemed like a recreation of sorts of The Lion King's "everything the light touches is yours" scene between Simba and Mufasa. So, I don't think this possible reference or connection is too much of a stretch.
We also see what appears to be a shooting star appear in the sky during this shot of the heart station-like stained glass window:
And the whole "wish upon a shooting star" stuff is very heavily connected to full Disney IPs, of course, but is also quite heavily connected to the Kingdom Hearts series as well:
It's probably not even an actual reference, but it is still interesting to think about this opening scene with Olivia and Gwen and the window acting as a heart station. Heart Stations in the Kingdom Hearts series are meant to reflect important people and places to the characters. Those important people don't all have to be positive influences either, sometimes they can be characters that were antagonistic or harmful, but played a large role in a character's journey and growth regardless.
So, it's just interesting to see that stained glass window that looks so much like a Kingdom Hearts' heart station appearing during this introductory scene to these characters and just being blank. No person or place of influence, just a blank, purple heart station the same color as the dark room we see Olivia and Gwen in. Heart Stations are meant to be reflective of a character's heart, so that emptiness can be a reflection of Olivia's heart - empty, cold, filled with no honest human connections - or Gwen's - a constant blank slate being rebooted and restarted and reworked, who's only human connection has been with Olivia, who is shown taking up the entirety of her heart station:
Such empty and lonely heart stations, with nothing but stars adorning them, holding that wish to be freed, to be saved, to be connected.
