Good ways to practice your target language
Hello friends! Whether you’re learning Arabic, Spanish, or something else entirely we all need more ways to expose ourselves to our target language. It makes reading become more natural and improves our understanding! Here’s some great practice methods I’ve found work really well for me.
- Reading news articles in your target language. Become up-to-date on current events while practicing!
- Listening to music in your target language. Lots of us have earbuds in at all times anyways, might as well get some practice out of it. Don’t worry about not understanding every word! You’ll become better at separating spoken words as you’re exposed to them more!
- Change your phone/tablet/laptop’s default language to your target language. I know everyone says this but it really helps!
- Think of the word for objects around you in your target language. Did you forget to practice that day and don’t wanna get out of bed? No problem! Just name 5-10 things around you and get some sleep.
- Listening to podcasts. Nerdy, informative, silly, whatever you’re into. Just listen to conversation.
- Read Wikihow articles in your target language! Learn to tie a cool knot while learning more vocabulary!
- Is your target language a form of sign language? See if you can find Youtube videos of people signing to your favorite songs!
- Research the vocab to go with whatever holiday is fast approaching! For example, Pumpkin is Calabaza in Spanish!
- Make use of whatever apps you have available to you, regardless of whether they’re popular. Don’t like Duolingo? Find an alternative! It’s your language journey. Nobody can tell you the right way to do it.
Feel free to add any more ideas you may have! I hope this helps somebody find a way to practice!
