It took me 2 days but I decided to do a redo of my take on Mortal Kombat designs for MK 1992 Kombatants
Cole Young deserved to be written better.
Like...he was given bare bones character development, cheap Y/N powers, and a vague connection to Scorpion which ALL could’ve been better.
Give me Cole Young, a formerly great rural boxing champion who fell from grace and can’t get back on his feet, but trying to desperately. Trying to get up and continue fighting for his dreams and his family. Give me flashback scenes of him actually being a cocky boxer, winning match after match, beating Edward Tobias, and coming out on top...only to go nowhere. Give me Cole desperately trying to make his daughter proud, and trying to be better for her. Or him actually knowing Jax before the tournament. Give me Cole actually TALKING about his wife and daughter, saying he misses them and loves them, and wants nothing more than to win Mortal Kombat for them.
Give me Cole unlocking his power of creation, not the power of “punch me and I start glowing”. Give me Cole Young punching Goro and creating the suit to protect himself, and absolutely LOVING IT, letting his early boxing career cockiness out. Give me Cole creating different weapons, assisting the other Kombatants during their battles, and being strategic like his daughter and Kung Lao teach him to be.
And most importantly, GIVE ME COLE EMBODYING THE HIZASHI FERALNESS!!!! When Goro started punching the truck in that one scene, Cole should’ve been completely enraged with Goro even TRYING to hurt his family, and getting up to punch Goro back to Outworld only to discover his power right as he lands a devastating blow!! Why was Cole confused when he unlocked his power?? He looked like he himself didn’t know how he unlocked it, which is saying something about his writing.
Basically, I love Cole and want better for him.
The costuming department for Mortal Kombat 1995 knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Liu Kang in his brown leather jacket and button up? A look. Sonya in her black turtleneck and later on her black shorts and tank top? Fashionista. Don’t get me started on Shang Tsung’s outfits...that fcking leather trench coat with the red decorations on the side? The red button up with glittery stitching? The black stitch shirt?? Gorgeous, fabulous, incredible.
Oh to be resting in Goro's lap now, cuddling into one of his big arms as he plays with my hair in one hand, the other massaging away the knots of my neck and being fed sliced strawberries with the remaining hand.
Just wanna be pampered by Mr. Beefy Arms x4 and be treated like a goddess because I'm his consort queen and he loves me like nothing else in all realms.
