I know this is an out of left-field post for my blog but, as a writer and a gay man, I want every anti-AO3 type person to know that when you cheer about AO3 possibly being censored and how great it is or whatever other smug gotcha post yall make, that you’re essentially saying you don’t want a place for LGBT writers to post their fancontent online. Like I don’t know how I can make it even more crystal fucking clear that you can’t get rid of the icky ~problematique~ fanfic without kneecapping LGBT writers in the crossfire, because the kind of people that want to neuter AO3 are going to use the “oh wont somebody PLEASE think of the children!!” excuse to get rid of LGBT content of all kinds, and then there won’t be ANY fanfiction sites that allow it. This isn’t like fanart where you can try and claw the tiniest sliver of interaction and engagement out of twitter, if AO3 goes down then there won’t be ANY place for LGBT writers to post their fanfic. It’s the same kind of thing that happened to Fanfiction.net and the very website I am making this goddamn post on.
I don’t fucking care if you dislike AO3 because it has porn you don’t agree with or don’t like, if you actually give a shit about LGBT fan-creators then you need to stop supporting Tiffany G and push back against her crusade to censor AO3. This isn’t a funny haha “the horny people are upset there might be ‘real moderation’ on the site and that they won’t be able to post their gross fanfics anymore hyuk-hyuk” this is another case of an overbearing puritanical government trying to give themselves an in to censor content made that is mainly made by LGBT people.
