prompt: 16th and 17th july - do you have any summer traditions? what is your typical daily routine in the summer?
i think it’s coming onto a year now that i have let the piggies be my work desk companions, it started in the summer. sort of a tradition? the daily routine is to not forget to stretch and rewatch some of the old shows from my childhood.

The move to online schooling across the globe has been a weird and funky process. Our uni goes back to face to face classes next semester but for those still haven’t to #workfromhome here are a few tips;
Establish a REALISTIC schedule - don't think that because school is online and you have more free time that you can create a super intense and productive schedule - you'll most likely burn out within a week or two. Create a realistic daily schedule that is similar to how your life was before schooling moved online. Allow yourself free time for hobbies or vegging out in front of the TV! Don't forget to schedule in your work and study sessions though ;)
Find you motivation - it may be hard to motivate yourself to get out of bed or to get work done when it seems like the world is falling apart but you have to create small and achievable goals that will push you to keep your life on track. They can be as small or as big as you want; put on pants everyday, get B's in all your classes, overthrow the government, or eat 3 meals a day. A great thing I did was create a small vision board in my planner to look at whenever I feel unmotivated.
Use the provided material - you have to time! Actually do the assigned readings, watch the recommended extra videos and do actually do your classwork/assignments. About halfway through Iso I got so bored that I emailed my teachers ASKING FOR WORK ! They loved that I was showing initiative and had more than enough extra work to keep me busy. Use this time to study and learn as much as you can.
Find a designated space - Designate a space away from your bed and other distractions to work. Working from your bedroom is never ideal because your brain associates that room with rest/relaxation and will think that that's the mood it has to go into. I ended up using the dining room table to work because being in my bedroom proved to be too distracting. If you really can't have a separate space, try to change the vibe in your room between study sessions and not. Open a window, light a candle, play different music, just try and get your brain to differentiate the environment of work and play.
Eliminate distractions - studying at home comes with new challenges, DISTRACTIONS!! Your family/roomates, pets, your bed - all of these are new distractions that you have now that you are studying from home. Try having a designated time to work and lock your phone in another room during this time. Communicate to your family that you need them to be quieter and not blast the TV in the middle of your zoom call. A good idea is to separate your study/work space from your bedroom if possible so that you can have a mental separation of the spaces. And even though this may sound cruel, maybe lock your pupper out of your room for a little while so they can't tempt you into cuddles...
Stay healthy - sleep, eat, exercise, repeat! These are things we all know what we should be doing but don't forget to take care of your mental health too. Reach out to friends when the quarantine blues start to set in - they are probably in need of a good chat just as much as you are! Even though it may sound lame - reaching out to teachers is also a great option. They miss you as well and most are super understanding and want to help. Besides simply chatting to your proff might get you a cheeky extension on that assignment easier ;)
Reward yourself - we are all our harshest critiques! Don't forget to reward yourself for achieving your goals and for working. Give yourself a break, buy yourself a new top or make yourself a coffee. Reward yourself however you see fit, to encourage your brain into wanting to work again.
Take a break - please, please, please take breaks!! It can feel counterproductive and 'undeserved' but you need to take care of yourself by allowing yourself to stop. Even if it's 5 minutes stretching away from your desk. Something small is better than nothing. Keep your eyes out for an upcoming post about different kinds of breaks you need and what to do!

i want to mark this as my first post, as i have been putting it off for quite sometime. this whole quarantine thing is really throwing me off my rhythm. i was starting to get used to my daily routine. wake up, get dressed, drive to school, go to work, and come home. as much as i dreaded the early mornings getting up for work, i miss it. i miss the 15 minute drives to my job. i miss being able to listen to great music while driving. i miss seeing my friends, always bringing a smile to my face. i am used to having everything planned, i write down all my assignments that are due on a calendar—twice . now everyday i wake up with uncertainty of what the day brings. online classes are stressing me out. i signed up for three, not SIX. it is overwhelming and i’ve already had a few mental breakdowns because of it.
i hate this routine of staying up late, sleeping in late, and being lazy for part of the day until i push my ass to do something. i miss the forced-ness of what my routine looked like, it gave me structure. i miss my niece. i miss my nephew. i miss my sisters. i miss my brother. i miss my family. it is just me and my parents at home and while yes, my mother is the best company, i do wish i had more people to hang around. i want to goof around with my cousins. i want to kiss my nephew’s chubby cheeks and make him giggle. i want my entire family to be under one roof during quarantine. i know it is not possible. so thank god for facetime and text messages bc i can’t go one day without seeing those adorable munchkins.
even though my birthday falls on april fools day, this year was ironically the oddest. i spent my 20th just with me and my parents. my entire family surprised me on facetime and i had to hold back my tears bc i so badly wanted to reach out and hug them all. it just wasn’t the same. life is different now. i don’t know when it’ll be all normal again soon. but i hope whenever that may be, it comes by quicker bc i don’t know how much longer i can live inside my mind.
sorry for the long post, maybe this blog will serve as an aesthetic journal for me. who knows. i just keep going wherever life takes me. and now life is telling me to stay at home.
signing off,

2020 Quarantine Challenge✨
What is your biggest tip on how to relax?
As someone who suffers from anxiety I know how hard relaxing can be. Even when you are not looking at your assignments, they continue to buzz through your head. Relaxing is some what of a process for me.
I start by looking at my planner and making sure I know what I have to do that day/week.
Then I put that away and clean my desk, and sometimes room. Cleaning really calms me down especially if you put on some of your favorite music. Afterwords you’ll most likely feel more relaxed and productive. I like this because the hard work you did is present all around you.
Afterwards I choose an easy activity that I enjoy such as reading, watching tv, playing a video game, or lighting a candle and taking a bath. Ofc choose something you enjoy!
After these steps, if I continue to worry about my upcoming assignments. I remind myself that when I open up my planner tomorrow it will be a fresh start, and if i relax then I know the next day will be easier.
I hope this maybe helps someone
Remember you are not alone during this time and there are plenty of people going insane in isolation!! Reach out and keep in contact with loved ones and friends to help relax as well!!

My oral exam didn’t really go that well, but having it over and done with lifts a lot of load off me. I still have to work toward the actual national exam later in July, but for now I can focus a little on my homework. My writing assignment is STILL incomplete, I’m this close to finishing my first draft but I can’t find a way to end it. I’ve been working on that ending for too long, I need to finish it soon. Stay productive folks :)
