i never was good at surprises.

He had to admit, he was feeling uncharacteristically giddy as he stood in front of the cabin-style home, staring at the door as he worked up the nerve to actually knock and make his presence known.

How long had it been now? A few months? Almost a year? Perhaps even longer since the two professors were able to meet face to face like this. Living in entirely different regions was a big enough hurdle to jump alone, but the added factors of endless paperwork and Noah’s deathly fear of air travel made casual meetups like this near impossible. Limited to emails and texting, and maybe the occasional video call if possible for the longest time, it made what should have been as something simple as saying hello face to face like a big deal.

… Maybe it was also because he had given Odile zero warning that he was arriving in the first place. Smile faltering just a little, Noah braced himself for the potential negative reaction he might get by just showing up like this. The tray of coffee balanced in one hand and the paper bag of sweet pastries he’d picked up along the way tucked under his arm might not suffice as compensation for turning up on the woman’s doorstep out of the blue.

‘HURRY UP.’

The squawked words jolted Noah from his thoughts, his eyes narrowing to throw a petty glare at the Chatot that perched itself on his shoulder. It was only right to bring Noodle along with him, he figured, though now that the baby bird held a stronger grasp on the English language (and a rather hasty personality to go with it) he was starting to regret his decision.

Still… the noisy, brightly colored Pokémon had a point. He couldn’t linger around all day, and his fingers were already twitching for a cigarette his hands were too full to hold. Clearing his throat and straightening his posture, Noah followed the Chatot’s advice and rapped his knuckles against the door, plastering another pleasant smile on his face as he awaited its opening.

For the love of Arceus, please just be happy pleasantly surprised to see him too.

There was an irritated look on her face and her voice had some hints of hostility in it, but she couldn’t really help it. “I’m Akira Hiiragi from the Unova League. We were supposed to have a meeting today.”

"You were expecting a guy to come in weren’t you? Same here.” It was obvious from the look on her face that she was expecting some a bit taller with more... Masculine features. But, what could he do? Nothing, that’s what. “I don’t mean to be so rude, but, could we just move this meeting along? I really don’t want to talk about this whole girl thing right now... Thanks.”

Saying it had been a while since the trainer-turned-ranger was last in Fortree would have been an understatement. After leaving the city to start his pokemon journey, and dealing with his parents disownment, he hadn’t come back. Of course there had always been thoughts about returning to the city, visiting his old mentor and checking out his old haunts. But when it came down to it the prospect of returning had always become rather daunting. Yet, someone he had let himself be talked into making a return visit.

He made his way to the nearest ladder, quickly climbing to the top and truly entering the city itself. He walked past homes both recognizable and old, and newer homes with fresh bridges leading to their doors. Before long he was standing in front of the gym. Az closed his eyes and breathed for a minute, taking in the fresh air of the forest canopy and centering himself. Opening them again, he breached the entrance to the gym and took a step inside. To believe his mentor was still here was a silly idea, but he wanted to get a look at the new owner of the place. Maybe they would know where he could find her.

Akira’s a giant baby when it comes to snake pokemon. There’s no reason, they just scare him. He also loses it with horror films and in haunted houses, screaming every 5 seconds and covering his eyes. However, he’ll try to deny it every time.

SNAFU (Strawberries Naturally All Fudged Up): a mistake(s) headcanon.

He’s made a lot of mistakes in his life that he doesn’t really want own up to. His biggest one is not thoroughly thinking about running away before he did it. He didn’t have that much money, food or clothes, making his first year alone especially difficult since he lost almost every battle he had.

Purple Daze: a stoner/drugs headcanon.

Honestly, he’s scared to try drugs. With all the commercials about it and what they teach in class, he’d rather not touch it and refuses every time, even when people insist. He’s never touched it once.

Azin would come to visit between traveling from one region to the other. he would try to keep in contact via letter and send her all kinds of tokens from his travels. When he’s spending time with her he would be such a bother, just generally in her space all the time though he doesn’t mean to be because he likes being near those he cares about.

Ship HC; Azin and Kenta go into a lifestyle of being "biologists" and scour through the Unova region in search of new flora, just for the sake of adventure.

//squints// this could work, but the two are more likely to be rangers then biologists. while nature is great, its the pokemon that hold more of an interest then the fauna. for Azin the trees are just a plus since he grew up in Fortree playing in the branches, its a bit nostalgic.
