this week we drew Epidexipteryx (mine is a juvenile being chased by a Pterorhynchus), Witwatia, Ceratosuchus (the bird behind it is Diatryma), and Prognathodon (mine has caught a young Archelon)
Pencil doodles of various prehistoric animals from top to bottom: Majungasaurus crenatissimus, Pteranodon sternbergi, Arctodus simus fighting Ceratosaurus nascicornis, Dilophosaurus wetherilli, Deinonychus antirhoppus, Mammut americanum, Hatzegopteryx thambena and Prognathodon saturator.
A yawning Prognathodon overtoni for friends's birthday
Prognathodon is a successful genus of large mosasaurs whose taxonomy is undergoing revision. Some species were separated into separate genera (as was the case with P. stadtmani, which was separated into the genus Gnathomortis). Others were previously separated into separate genera but were later placed in the genus Prognathodon. This is the case with P. overtoni. This species, known from nearly complete and articulated specimens, was placed in the genus Brachysaurana but was later considered a species of Prognathodon. It is distinguished by teeth that do not angle forward and have smooth enamel. Its remains have been found in Campanian rocks of Canada and the United States. Other species are known from Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and New Zealand. Prognathodon were apex predators that hunted a wide variety of animals.
A mosasaur tooth of an indeterminate prognathodontin, possibly cf. Thalassotitan sp. from the Peedee Formation in Holden Beach, North Carolina, United States. The robust bone-crushing characteristic of this American mosasaur tooth morphology is comparable to that of Thalassotitan atrox from Morocco.

Propaganda (if any) under the cut! Please be civil, and feel free to reblog!
Propaganda for Prognathodon [Dinosaurs in the Wild]:
"There might be no better propaganda in this case than this video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/BnWy35GFdcd/"
Propaganda for Sophia [Dinosaur Sanctuary]:
"Sophia is a Globidens (a type of mosasaur), and is the star animal attraction of Blue World, an aquarium where the animal keeper Igarashi used to work.
She was the runt of a litter that survived after their mother died in childbirth.
She is very chill, and uses her rounded teeth to crush the molluscs and shellfish which make up her food.
Sophia is lovely, and the comic is lovely, and if you are the sort of person who enjoys these polls you should probably check is out!"
