Was I Wrong About Proxima Wanting to Be Starmistress?
I was thinking about my comment that Proxima should have been adopted or found her biological family rather than becoming Starmistress. And while I still believe this, there are some details that supports the idea.
First, Proxima turned the Astromancer Academy into her hideout. While it could be mostly due to practicality (all the Astromancers were turned into Spectromancers, and there are likely resources, such as the library, there), it could also be because Proxima would want to be Starmistress.
The second detail is that the Vexicons call Proxima Starmistress. While it could be the fact that Proxima didn't know what else to make the Vexicons call her, and Starmistress seemed the best. However, it could also be her wanting the title, even though it wasn't the Astromancers who gave it to her.
While Proxima being the Starmistress wasn't completely random, I still think it would have been a better payoff to have Proxima gain family at the end, and that should have been the focus. However, I don't think that both can't happen. Proxima didn't reject it when Arkayna said "nice to have you back, sis", giving a small hint that she's seeing the Mysticons as family. That gave her a small part with family, and her main happy ending was becoming Starmistress. I personally think they should have been reversed, with a small thing of Proxima's goal to be Starmistress and the larger part being Proxima finding family. Perhaps Nova Terron Could have adopted Proxima, he could also say something like "you'll make a fine Starmistress one day". Not only would it focus more on what Proxima wants at the time, it would also make more sense, as Proxima is 15, so her not being the head of a powerful organization yet makes sense.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
Arkayna: Proxima, I should have listened to you.
Proxima: Yeah. Everyone should listen to me all the time about everything.
I know this is early to be asking about it, but if I were to make a Mysticons nextgen series, is there anything you would or wouldn't like to see??
This can be in regards to tropes, relationships, and anything else you can think of.
sorry if this is a random question but I'm lowkey considering on writing a proxima/tazma fic and I gotta ask how do you think that dynamic would work? i'm trying to get a few opinions since I struggle writing those characters th e most lol
OOOO awesome!!! and proxima/tazma is kind of hard cuz their canon interactions were limited, but tazma showed a LOT of interest in proxima when she was vulnerable. she definitely thought tazma was manipulateable which (in that moment) she sure wasnt.
anyway id imagine youre looking into a tazma-turns-good proxtaz (tazprox?) kind of thing which would be awesome. with proxima being star mistress and tazma being a former student, plus both of them having been on both sides, theres just a lot of potential for proxima trying to reach out and help her and tazma resisting but maybe falling into it
man im so into this nowwwwwwwwwwwwww
Time for a GreatFall incorrect quote
(Arkayna finds out Gawayne and Proxima are dating, and lets Proxima know she does not approve.)
Proxima: You've got opinions on my life and my relations, but let me tell you what.
Arkayna: Okay, enlighten me.
Proxima: Love is the one thing that has zero complications, and I can trust my gut.
Arkayna: Okay, you frighten me.
Proxima: Some people know their hearts the minute true love starts.
Arkayna: Some people read a lot of books.
Proxima: I like books. Some people simply know when true love says "Hello!"
Arkayna: Some folks are taken in by curly locks and princely looks.
Proxima: *gasps* He does have princely looks! Oh, we agree on that one.
Arkayna: (flatly) Right.
Mysticons does plot twists right.
Zarya’s reveal was so jaw-dropping in how they mis-directed us so well. Proxima wasn’t an obvious decoy because we didn’t think there was anything more to the whole prophecy. I haven’t seen such a well played plot twist since a certain bombshell dropped by Steven Universe.
Not only was Arkayna and Zarya’s connection done extremely brilliantly but Proxima wouldn’t just drift away from the cast of characters and instead became the next Big Bad the heroes would have to deal with. It’s such an amazing way to repurpose a character after the narrative’s initial intentions for her.
