"Alright, I think you all are eager to know how everything went today, so Mel wrote this up for you. Enjoy."
The Way to a Man's Heart
Alastor made his way through the woods outside Cannibal Town. Rosie had called him, saying that she anticipated needing his help with taking care of a pest, which was unusual in the fact that he knew Rosie was perfectly capable of handling such things on her own, but he presumed it was more of a kind gesture to include Alastor in on the fun than an actual bid for help. And he certainly wasn’t going to complain about that!
As he drew closer to the meeting point, he began to pick up on the scent of blood and viscera in the air. Had Rosie started without him? He hoped she had a good reason, or else he would be very put out.
He emerged into a clearing and immediately froze. Rosie was nowhere in sight. Instead, there was a red blanket laid out on the ground with a bottle of wine and a couple glasses, a picnic basket set to the side. But far more eye-catching was the array of mangled body parts and internal organs spread over the ground in front of him, arranged in such a way to spell out in large text: WILL YOU MARRY ME?
Alastor’s mouth was watering as Vox stepped out of the treeline and to his side. The confident smile on the television demon’s face might have fooled most people, but no one knew him better than Alastor, and he could see the nerves dancing beneath the surface as he met the Radio Demon’s hungry gaze.
Smile only faltering slightly, Vox got down on one knee and held out a black, velvet ring box. “Well, Alastor, my love, will you marry me?”
Alastor paused, his gaze sweeping over the gory scene and then to the ring that Vox was offering out to him. It was a black band of what was no doubt an expensive material, knowing Vox, and was adorned with a row of blue sapphires through the middle. A little piece of Vox’s color scheme - a label, of sorts, of who was to be his betrothed. An unsurprising choice, really.
“And who contributed all this?” he asked curiously, waving a hand towards the viscera that decorated the ground. He really was curious - and perhaps a touch disappointed he hadn’t gotten to indulge - but he also just wanted to see Vox sweat.
Vox’s tongue darted out to wet his lips anxiously. “My employees. Some of my best. But worth sacrificing for you.”
Oh. How sweet. Vox so often complained about how good employees were hard to come by, and now here he was chopping them up for him. Alastor could scarcely think of a more romantic gesture. Vox was perfect.
The Radio Demon’s eyes shone with delight and his smile creeped up higher on his face. “Oh, my dear,” he purred in a low voice. “How can I say no to that?” He didn’t bother waiting for Vox to register his words, instead picking up the ring himself and sliding it onto his finger.
Vox’s screen brightened with his joy, his smile clipping off at the corners. He got to his feet, only for Alastor to immediately seize him by the collar and shove him back against a tree to capture his lips in a fierce kiss. He wanted so much to take him apart and savor every piece of him, but he also didn’t want to risk any permanent damage to his picture box, so this would have to do.
Vox groaned into his mouth and clutched at his hips, pulling him tighter against him. But while he was sure that Vox would be more than happy for things to escalate in that moment, Alastor was hungry, and the scent of blood coming from behind him was calling to him. He broke off the kiss with a sharp nip at Vox’s lip, happily lapping up the blood the action drew on his way.
“Okay, I get it,” Vox laughed. “Enjoy the buffet.”
Alastor grinned and enthusiastically turned his attention to the remains of the unfortunate VoxTek employees, while Vox made his way over to the picnic he had set up and poured them both some wine.
“Rosie said this wine should pair nicely with my staff,” Vox offered Alastor a glass when he eventually joined him on the blanket, not at all put off by the way Alastor had just devoured said staff.
“Clever getting her involved,” he praised as he accepted the glass, taking a sip with a pleased hum. “You actually managed to surprise me!”
Vox smirked and leaned back on his hand as he brought his glass to his lips. “That was the idea.”
Alastor drained the rest of his glass, then twisted around to lay down, resting his head on Vox’s lap. “I would go so far to say that you managed to impress me, too.”
“That was the idea,” he repeated in a low voice, looking down at him with a grin and literal hearts in his eyes.
He raised his hand, watching the light reflect off the sapphires of his ring.
“Do you like it?” Vox asked after a moment. “I just couldn’t resist finally getting you to wear something blue.”
“It’s acceptable,” he allowed. “I’m assuming Lucifer’s will match?”
He blinked. “What?”
Alastor smirked up at him knowingly. “You propose to me, Lucifer proposes to you, that leaves him as the only one without a ring. And I know you wouldn’t allow that.”
A faint pink tint tinged his screen. “Okay, yeah, they match. Charlie thought it was a good idea.”
He chuckled and allowed his eyes to slip shut as he relaxed. “Of course she did.”
Vox’s hand ran through his hair and then traced down his arm to the back of his left hand, where he wound their fingers together. “I love you.”
Alastor didn’t open his eyes, but his smile inched higher. “And I love you.” In his own way, but he knew that Vox knew what he meant. And even better, he knew that it was enough. Which was good, because he never intended to let Vox go. And now with their coming marriage, he would never be expected to.
