"Finally, a Purple request!" I cry out, as if I couldn't just write something about them of my own volition.
Purple is probably the hardest crewmate to romance, right after Lime. You'll likely fall into Situationship Hell for a million years.
They're incredibly emotionally constipated. Kinda like an abused dog from the shelter. They don't know if they'll ever heal from everything that's happened to them, and are (rightfully) reluctant to let new people into their life.
They'll be as professional as they can afford to be and just generally distant the first time you meet.
No matter how nice and friendly you are to them, you just won't get through. You see, Purple is a bit of an stubborn asshole. They're dead set on the notion that they're not here to TALK or SOCIALIZE or get along with ANYONE. They just want to DO THEIR JOB (that they can barely even do because the equipment is ass) IN PEACE!!!!
When White dies, however, they can't help but immediately regret every choice they made up until that moment. They think they should've just captain kicked Red to the curb and stayed home to, at the very least, die "peacefully" of "natural causes". At the ripe old age of Not Old Enough To Die Of "Natural Causes" They Will Just Starve To Death Instead 'Cause No Job...th
Because they took this rotten olive branch, they have to deal with a whole alien infestation with basically nothing to defend themselves. Purple is suddenly, painfully aware of their own mortally, as well as that of other members of the crew... The situation brings out both the best and the worst out of them.
On one hand, I think that desperate, all-consuming feeling of "this might it for me", the constant, looming threat of dying next, pushes them to allow you in and reward your attempts to befriend them.
In this Death Machine, they only thing you truly have is one another. It's gonna take a lot out of them to indulge you, especially if you're a more extroverted than they are, but they need someone they can actually trust, and, if deem you safe to be around, they'll open up to you and keep you safe in turn.
On the other hand, the more people die, the worse their paranoia gets, the more distracted and easily irritated they become as well. Very likely to argue over details with you or the others. Especially the others.
They really should pay more attention to the cameras instead of arguing with Red... Be careful if you bring that up, though, they won't be in the right mental state to consider people dying is kind of their fault because they left security for two seconds to feed Heracles.
Talking about the fishmate, you know you've successfully earned their trust when they let you in on their best kept secret... You'll get SO MANY addtional brownie points if you get Heracles' name right the first time. Purple is so tired of correcting people about it, they might do it anyways and then catch themselves like "oop wait that's actually right. Wow, you really listened to what I was saying..." They'll instantly feel more appreciated and seen than ever before in their whole entire life.
If you fuck it up, it's fine, they're used to it... Sigh 💔 you gotta lock in, buddy.
Either way, I WOULD encourage you to ask them why their pet is named that instead of Hercules, so Purple has a chance to proudly shower you in cool facts about Greekmate mythology (they're secretly a complete history nerd)
Please, let that poor, exhausted crewmate infodump you about their special interest. They've earned it. And make sure to admire their vintage binocular collection that they brought on-board, too! Look, but do not touch. Do NOT.
I think Purple is very particular about a lot of stuff, but they definitely hate it the most when people touch their things or them without permission. Generally touch-adverse, though they've learned to mask it somewhat decently with the years and won't make much of a fuss unless they're really overwhelmed.
It's not that they don't like physical touch, but that it feels jarring and uncomfortable when someone else initiates it unprompted. Especially while there's an alien murderer on the loose. Let them initiate and take things at their own pace.
That said, Purple really Loves hand-holding. It keeps them grounded, and the warmth of your hand against theirs is a constant reminder they're not alone in this mess anymore.
That's probably the only kind of PDA they'll actively indulge in. At first, they'll ask for your permission every time, but, as you grow closer, they'll just go for it without a second thought, like it's second nature to them. They WILL hold your hand everywhere you go and do NOT care who's watching.

I do think Purps has a naturally cold body temperature (Make sure to keep them nice and warm no matter where you are!), so they wouldn't like to spend prolonged periods of time in there... But when you need a smooch, you NEED a smooch. That's the single, most private place on the entire ship and they're not gonna argue over it if they need physical contact with you very bad.
Once they're completely comfortable with you, they probably won't leave your side. Surprisingly clingy for how tough they act most of the time. All they know is that, if you're together, the chances you die on them (or them on you) are extremely low. Won't protest if you need time of your own, but they'll be secretly worried the entire time.
Despite how romantic things seem between you, and how you care for one another unconditionally, you've been in a situationship instead of an actual relationship with them this entire time.
It's also rooted in the same "I'm probably going to die next" anxiety that led them to give you a chance to begin with; they don't want to fall in love too deeply while either of you can just die at any moment in this godforsaken ship...
But I just don't think Purple can control their emotions that well, especially in a life or death situation like this. They sought you out for a reason, the love they feel for you is genuine, but they won't allow themselves to admit that for a long time... At the very least, for as long as you two are trapped inside the Skeld.
After that? They'll also need time to decide what they want to do with their life, given all three of you (Red is also there, unfortunately) are surely about to suffer the hash consequences of losing an entire shipload of Ore+.
Whatever awaits you two in the future... Purple ultimately decides it'll be better to face it by your side.
