FROM THE HEART OF THEM: Former Heart of Gold Band members Steve Kimock and Greg Anton will play two concerts, Aug. 22 and 23 in California, honoring their former HOG Bandmate and former Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia Band singer Donna Jean Godchaux, who died in 2025. Singer Maria Muldaur, keyboardist Mookie Siegel and drummer Wally Ingram are among the other musicians and guests expected to perform under the Heart of Gold Band banner.
A portion of proceeds from each show will benefit Alive Hospice and Camp Winnarainbow.
WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW: Pearl Jam has reportedly chosen the drummer to replace Matt Cameron, who quit the group in 2025. The musician will not be named until Sept. 27, when Pearl Jam takes the stage at the Ohana festival.
“There’s not enough mystery in the world,” Stone Gossard said, as reported by Rolling Stone magazine. “I think the band is very excited that we’re actually getting to play. … And the fact that nobody knows who’s going to play drums with us even makes it triply exciting. So, it’s our mystery wrapped in an enigma and we’re relishing in it right now.”
NEVER SAY DIE: Dead since 2025, Ozzy Osbourne will have a second coming as an AI-powered avatar, the Guardian newspaper reports.

BABY, WHAT A BIG SURPRISE (NOT): Chicago will reissue its 1975 Greatest Hits album, aka Chicago IX, for its 50th anniversary. The new collection adds 10 tracks culled from every studio album the band released between 1969-1980 and arrives Aug. 8.
HOW BLUES BROTHERS CAN YOU GET: A new Blues Brothers live LP - the Lost Recordings - will be released Oct. 7 as a companion to the graphic novel “The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake.”
THE BARD AS ARTISTE: Bob Dylan will release a collection of some 100 black-and-white sketches of everything from landscapes to people to a roll of Scotch tape as “Point Blank (Quick Studies)” on Nov. 18.

BEAT GOES ON: After 65 U.S. tour dates, BEAT, the Adrian Belew- and Tony Levin-fronted band playing the 1980s King Crimson catalog, announced a show for May 6, 2025, in Chile.
“These have been some of the most special concerts I have ever experienced,” Belew said of playing alongside Levin, guitarist Steve Vai and drummer Danny Carey.
“Pure joy.”
SIMON DAWSON IS NEW IRON MAIDEN DRUMMER: Simon Dawson has joined Iron Maiden, replacing Nicko McBrain, who retired.

LUCK REUNION RUNS INTO BAD LUCK: Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion was pushed back one day to March 17 due to the potential for nasty weather on the 16th.
The shift rendered Guster and Mother Cain unavailable to perform; Margo Price was added to the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Texas.
“Same venue, same vendors, same Willie - and a little more sunshine,” organizers said in a statement.
TICKETMASTER TRIES TO SUBVERT THE CURE’S CURE; OFFERING REFUNDS: When the Cure sought to stymie scalpers and keep ticket prices for its upcoming U.S. tour affordable, Ticketmaster responded by adding fees that more than doubled the prices for some tickets.
Robert Smith wasn’t having it and after doing some behind-the-scenes work, tweeted the monopolistic ticketing service “agreed with us that many of the fees being charged are unduly high” and will make automatic refunds of between $5 and $10 per ticket.
E STREET REOPENS: Bruce Springsteen’s streak of postponed shows ended at three and he and the E Street Band performed March 16 in Philadelphia.
HAPPY ST. SEBASTIAN’S DAY: John Sebastian turns 79 today and Sound Bites wishes him a lovin’ spoonful of his favorite ice cream.

FORMER BLACK VIOLIN DRUMMER DIES: Beatdown, the first drummer to play with Black Violin, has died, a “devastated” Kev Marcus and Wil B. said.
The drummer’s given name, age and date and cause of death were not available.
“He lived every day to the fullest without apology and we were blessed to know him,” Black Violin said.
CASS ELLIOT GETS A STAR: The late Cass Elliot received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during an Oct. 3 ceremony that included Elliot’s fellow Mama Michelle Phillips and John Sebastian.
NO RAGE IN 2023: Rage Against the Machine canceled all 2023 North American concert dates as singer Zack de la Rocha continues to rehabilitate a torn Achilles tendon.
“It’s not simply a question of being able to perform again, but extends to basic functionality going forward,” de la Rocha said in a statement.
Refunds will be issued.

ALLMANS TO GET TROUBLE-FREE SALUTE: Chuck Leavell will join Allman Brothers tribute band Trouble No More for two shows featuring full-album performances of 1973’s Brothers and Sisters. The gigs are slated for March 24 in Boston and March 25 in New York.
BERNIE AND THE BOOK: Elton John lyricist Bernie Taupin will release his “nonlinear” autobiography, “Scattershot: Life, Music, Elton & Me” on Sept. 12.
“Hopefully, there’s something in it for everybody,” Taupin said in a statement.
SCR RECORDING WITH NEW SINGER: Steep Canyon Rangers are recording a new album, their first with singer/guitarist Aaron Burdett. The as-yet-untitled LP has no release date.
