Brand new leaves on these mangosteen sprouts. The purple mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands of the Malay archipelago and the Moluccas of Indonesia. It grows mainly in Southeast Asia, southwest India and other tropical areas such as Haiti 😉 The mangosteen is often referred to as “queen of fruits” because of its exquisite, subacid to sweet flavor. The fruits are primarily consumed fresh but can also be frozen and canned. The seeds are also edible if boiled or roasted. Various parts of the plant have a history of use in traditional medicine, mostly in Southeast Asia; it may have been used to treat skin infections, wounds, dysentery, urinary tract infections, and gastrointestinal complaints. Mangosteen twigs have been used as chew sticks in Ghana, and the wood has been used to make spears and cabinetry in Thailand. The rind of the mangosteen fruit has also been used to tan leather in China. After 4 years of failed attempts, I’m happy to say that these are finally being Grown in Haiti. #growninhaiti #mangosteen #queenoffruits #fruit #tropical #trooicalfruit #exotic #exoticfruit #organic #nursery #sprout #reforestation #preseevation #variety #diversity #edible #medicinal #ornamental #leaves #seedpirates #haiti #ayiti #nogmos #nopesticides #noherbicides #foodsecurity #growth #plantsomething #plantatree https://www.instagram.com/p/BqLBvBtjX8W/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6j12wp2i3eo3
