When writing the film, one of the notes was that there were too many arguing scenes back to back, so they were quickly removed. Ironically, once production started and the dailies sent back to studio, it was the “fussing” that received the highest praise. Credit has gone to the leads for their chemistry (both romantic and antagonistic) to restoring the film back to its original soul.

2. pick a strange word that you never knew how to pronounce

Probably a common answer but of course I had no clue how to pronounce Æsahættr when I first read it, I bet Philman had a good lol at our expense when he put that in there. He said

  Also, when I first read the books at age 8, I somehow missed the bit at the start explaining how to say dæmon, and pronounced it as day-mun through the whole trilogy lol

18. favourite chapter title?

It’s gotta be ‘The Bridge to the Stars’, just because it’s describing that last beautiful image where Lyra walks into the sky. Also, I know it’s not exactly the question, but special shout out to ‘Mrs Coulter in Geneva’ and ‘Saint-Jean-les-Eaux’ for being back to back chapters of Marisa as a badass renegade spy, trashing god and the magisterium, like honestly iconique, we love a desperate psycho queen. (I’d also like to just mention this fun passage referring to Marisa which I found while looking through TAS for this) -

A mother macaque demonstrating maternal behavior. What we found in other macaques is very similar – they exaggerate their gestures, ‘kiss’ their baby, and have sustained mutual gaze.
