A nice and relaxed heeling dog who stops with a simple word cue. So proud of my baby girl!! Yesterday I had to walk 2.5km back and forth and it felt so WRONG to be without her?? I don't know how to walk alone it feels like such a burden without her sniffing piggy noises. (Shout out to @westie-impostor for the collar, she's so stunning in it 😍😍😍)
Sometimes training is full gear, with clicker, toys, and cheese out in public and other times it's a handful of cereal on the couch.
can i have some advice on training him to ignore dogs in public?
picture of tiny oakley is for attention bc i could rly use some help aha and i know the best way to catch eyes is with a cute puppy. more info on the situation and what im doing under the cut if you care
i know its not that big of a deal and probably happens a lot and is easy to work through.. but when i have a problem i cant figure out i tend to hyperfixate and then it really fucks with me…. he used to not have so much of an issue, but lately he gets super excited when he sees other dogs. he doesn’t necessarily lunge, but he does pull towards them and seeing as my knees are Shit its hard for me to maintain my balance when 50+lbs of dog is pulling on me lmao.. his “watch me” is usually pretty good, but sometimes he gets too focused on the dog and just doesn’t listen. what i do now is hold treats under his nose, talk in a higher pitched voice and try to make myself more interesting than the other dog. then, when i have his attention i try to do refocusing exercises (simple commands like “paw” and “touch”) but this doesn’t always work. i think that’s everything, i hope i didn’t miss anything?? thank you so so much to anybody who read this all and offers advice
I lunged my potato tonight and she was super good
1) we did the sidereins thing and I think I’ve got them at a good setting bc she’s gotta work at it but can get it when she tries
2) we did canter twice!!!! For multiple circles each time!!!! Also there was no grumpy behavior in terms of tail swish or ears or neck roll so she was super chill with it
I kinda asked for a loooot more canter than I usually do and was super impressed at how she just stepped up to the challenge without hesitation or complaint. She’s been giving me a lot of really wonderful effort and it’s just a shame Basketball starts next week so I don’t really have the time to run with it. 🙃
LILY HAD HER FIRST POSITIVE DOG ENCOUNTER!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOOO PROUD OF MY LIL WIGGLE!!!!!!!!!! Here's how it went: We were walking parallel to a girl with an oldie golden retriever female on opposite sidewalks and Lily was doing so good so I decide to stop at the corner and have her wait for the dog to show up. She's sitting and super aroused but calm anyways. The girl stops and tells me how beautiful lily is and we start chatting a lil from opposite street corners. THEN SHE ASKS IF IT'S OKAY TO CROSS and I decided to take a chance!! She crosses with her big ol pupper and BAM AMAZING BODY LANGUAGE THE DOG IS QUIET BUT JOYFUL AND SHE LETS LILY HAVE A SNIFF AND SHE'S SUPER SWEET AND HAS A LOW TAIL.WAGGING IN THAT HAPPY TO BE HERE SLOW MO PACE. Lily gets intense of course SO GOLDIE TURNS AWAY AND JUST WALKS AWAY FROM THE INTERACTION!!!! Lily keeps pushing but no yelling and minimal hackles!!!!!! Haaaa aaaaaaat!!!!!!!! Legit I wanted to cry on the spot because that other dog was so gentle but also knew exactly how to handle my overtly intruding doggo and it made my heart sing and the girl was pretty nice and she kept saying how much she loved lily and I just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUYS IT'S BEEN ALMOST A YEAR SINCE WE STOPPED TRYING DOG CONTACT AND IT WAS WELL WORTH IT AND MY LILY IS SOSOSOSOOOO MUCH BETTER AND THIS OTHER DOG WAS JUST PRECIOUS OMFG!!
Séparation anxiety and destructive behaviors
Alright dogblr!! I need EVERYONE'S help for this please!! My dog, Lily a nearly 3yo bully mix is having a LOT of trouble when being left alone. She destroys everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. She got into the trans. Destroyed her flexilead. Chewed a bunch of stuffed animals (that were not hers). Pulled down a pan from the stove. Ate a bunch of cartons and books (most of which were not mine btw). I'm lost here. I'm really trying hard but my girlfriend INSISTS on not touching her and scorning/showing her where she did bad (aka calling her over to her pee puddle and asking in a stern voice "what's that??" And where she made a mess) and it really truly fucking breaks my heart because I KNOW it's not good to do but she's at her wits end right now. My mother (who even saw the mess she made) told me to "just get another one" and I really want to cry right now. I work 4 days a week (3pm to 11pm) and my girlfriend 6 days a week (8hrs shift). Usually she's not alone (crated) for more than 4-6 hours at a time but seriously.... it's not fun for her. She doesn't despise the crate as much as before, but she still doesn't LOVES it you know?? So any tips for that? And also how to manage her anxiety/destructive behaviors? It makes me super sad because I KNOW she's super anxious and uncomfortable but also its becoming a big discord between me and my girl and last thing I want is to have to choose between the two. I'm going to tag some dogblr I follow/love and who train mainly in r+/not fear-based because that's the way I wanna go but like... I don't have the $$ to see an educator/trainer and that breaks my heart even more. Any help?? @twobigears @doberbutts @molosseraptor @themotherfuckingclickerkid @herebelife @mango-pup @boxerbeans if you guys could spread this around... I need help so effing desperately.
