Have you ever noticed how Will has Halt's attitude and disregard for all kinds of rules but has Crowley's short redhead temper so when combined he is the most ruthless one out of all of them in his missions. And I think this is really cool because one, Halt is the one who looks the scariest but Will is the one that is colder and angrier when they face with an enemy (just think how he reacted to John Buttle and the Genovesan that poisoned Halt), and two, he truly is like the biological son of Halt and Crowley, it is insane lol.
Headcanon/scenario I came up with while writing a gathering fic that I wrote into it part 3/3
Gilan once had a confrontation with this random guy who was stuck up and fully of himself and accused him of being disrespectful and he demanded it be dealt with formally. Halt and Gil were visiting Castle Araluen when it happened so Crowley got dragged into it. Halt and the guy got into an argument and it was escalating a lot until Crowley stopped it and told the man to leave. But as he was leaving he said something and insulted Gil in some way and Halt just grabbed Crowley's coffee mug on his desk and threw it at the guy. He missed and the guy didn't get hurt (which was for the bets if they didn't want to deal with more meetings) but Halt definitely got into trouble.
I didn't have much time to write today, so here are my dancing-related headcanons for some of the RA and BB characters <3
Will: used to be bad at dancing, but picked it up quite quickly once he started practicing his dancing for his and Alyss’ wedding. He won’t spontaneously burst into a dance, but if there’s a good vibe in the room, he’ll be glad to join. On late evenings you’ll catch him and Alyss slowing in their living room.
Alyss: used to be an even more terrible dancer than Will, but like him, she’s a fast learner. She started taking dancing lessons when the news of Halt and Pauline’s wedding came, and has been a gracious dancer ever since. But when Will plays a catchy tune on his mandola, you’ll catch her making the silliest moves, with the sole purpose of making Will laugh.
Halt: swears high and low he hates dancing, but when it’s Pauline or Crowley asking, he will gladly join them on the dance floor. If it’s a public event, he will do one dance with them, and then retake his seat, but if he’s at home, their dance sessions can take a little longer. Pauline or Crowley will provide the music by humming a tune. One some rare occasions, Alyss and Will join in and Will will play some songs on his mandola. Halt’s actually quite good at dancing, thanks to his ranger training.
Pauline: loves a good dance. She’ll gladly twirl around on the dance floor with her friends. You can catch her randomly bursting out in a song or humming a tune when she’s in a good mood. When Crowley’s around, he’ll immediately chime in, which annoys the living hell out of Halt (at least that’s what he pretends. Pauline and Crowley know better.)
Crowley: not that good of a dancer, but makes up for it with enthusiasm. Is absolutely that kind of guy that randomly starts twerking in the middle of the dance floor. Is also that kinda guy that gets the vibe going: his energy is infectious, and when he starts dancing & vibing, the other people in the room won’t take long to follow.
Gilan: biggest partier in the room. Can’t dance for the life of him, but that absolutely doesn’t stop him from vibing to the music. The type of guy to sing in the shower like they’re giving a concert, ignoring the fact that his singing is more shouting and completely off tune.
Horace: everyone seems to think that he wouldn’t be a good dancer, but can actually dance quite well and really enjoys twirling Cassie around the ballroom. He’s the kind of dad that took every opportunity to dance with his daughter.
Because of this, Maddie’s also quite a good dancer, although she’s a bit more shy about it. The only people she’ll dance with are her parents, and maybe Will and Alyss.
Cassandra is the best dancer of everyone. She tremendously enjoyed dance classes as a kid, and never stopped trying to improve her dancing. It’s an absolute delight to watch her float across the room.
Duncan & Arald are a bit the same when it comes to dancing: they know how to dance, don’t look too bad while doing it, and make up for the rest with enthusiasm.
George: can’t dance for the life of him, and doesn’t really enjoy it either. He prefers to watch and enjoy his food & drinks in peace, although he’ll join his friends when the mood’s right.
Jenny will often join him, cause she’s not the biggest fan of dancing either, especially when people are watching, but she enjoys the music, so she prefers to watch the others. Sometimes you’ll catch her and George swaying to the music together somewhere a bit more to the side, they prefer not to be in the middle of it all.
Stig & Hal (cause these two absolutely belong together): will take any opportunity to dance together. They’re not exceptional dancers, but because they’re so in sync with each other, you don’t really notice. Stig’s favourite move is lifting Hal up and twirling him in the air. Preferably when he can catch Hal off guard, cause that will send Hal into a fit of giggles.
Lydia & Ingvar look the cutest while dancing. Ingvar’s really scared of accidentally stepping on Lydia’s toes, so Lydia will whisper the steps to him. That way he doesn’t have to focus that much and he can enjoy the dance so much more. They always take it slow and keep it simple, but that’s exactly the way they like it. Most of the time, they’re the last to leave the dance floor.
When it comes to the rest of the herons, Edvin stays a bit more to the side, while Jesper and Stefan are in the middle of the dance floor, probably performing some sort of impromptu dance routine that looks an awful lot like the kind of dance you would perform for your parents when you wanted your best friend to sleep over. Ulf and Wulf are either the background dancers, or performing their own dance routine. It’s uncanny how in sync they are.
Erak & Svengal are … well, dancing. They’re certainly moving their bodies in ways that aren’t the usual. They got vibes though, so it’s okay.
Thorn’s dancing with Karina. They’re the most gracious of the Skandians on the dance floor. They also only have eyes for each other, and won’t really notice they’re the only ones still dancing while everyone’s watching them until the music stops.
Feel free to add your own dancing-related headcanons to the list!
I imagine that Crowley had enough of unnecessary drama during the gathering and he thought of the hug it out rule. After drama they have to either hug it out or wear the get along shirt
A random headcanon about Crowley I have is that he grew up COUNTRY country, or the closest equivalent that they would have in that time, I guess. Like, he grew up on a farm in the middle of the countryside, and his best friends growing up were chickens sorta country, lol
That, combined with Halts extravagance and the fact that Irish insults are just hilarious, means that whenever Gilan is being particularly dumb the entire corps gets treated to some of the best insults they have ever heard
Also, Crowley doesn't really have a country accent typically, but sometimes, when he's ranting about something, he does. When both Crowley and Halt have accents, you know some crap's boutta go down
Idk I just realized we didn't even have any hints as to what Crowley's family or upbringing was like and I decided this is actually kind of amazing lol
Headcanon that Rangers are, as a whole, incredibly superstitious
Crowley only wears green socks. Halt carves a small good luck symbol into every bow he makes for himself. Will always keeps a pebble with him that he found on his first day back from Skandia. Gilan always keeps carrots on him, and whenever has to leave Blaze longer than a few minutes, he gives her one half before he goes and the other half when he comes back
They would never admit this, not to any other Rangers and especially not to non-Rangers. But Ranger work is lonely work, and when it's just you and a horse for weeks at a time and your life is on the line so often...well, sometimes you feel better with green socks, or when you make an informal promise to your horse that you won't get into trouble
Saw a recent post from @that-one-enby-ranger about how Halt loves ducks and I’m about to expand on it.
Halt loves ducks because Caitlin used to throw them rice. It made their parents very mad so Caitlin would do it behind their backs. One day when Half was walking by the pond, he saw her do it, and asked why she threw rice and not bread. She told him how bread actually hurt them by making them feel full when they weren’t, and how they like things like rice and lettuce instead.
Then Halt would go with Caitlin to feed the ducks and those were some of Halt’s favorite memories, of talking with his sister, playing in the dirt like a regular kid, and feeding the ducks.
So now that he is semi-retired, he finds more time to go feed the ducks by the pond, and it reminds him of better times.
A year later he sees one of the once baby ducks is wounded and decides to take it in to help it. And though Pauline acts disapproving, she sees it makes him happy and the duck ends up growing on her. Halt names the duck Lucy, because his sister had mentioned at the time that I’d she had a daughter, she would name him Lucy. He had acted like he wasn’t listening at the time, like a brother does, but he listen to every word she said. Her voice soothed him.
