How can I sleep when my mind won’t shut down. There aren’t enough colors in the rainbow for me to breathe in and out.

Over the weekend I took Benadryl for my allergies, and lord, today I felt like shit. Benadryl is like that girl you go out partying with and you have a good time but the next day you think fuck, she’s a toxic friend I should distance myself from. Ok, so Benadryl is probably the hardest drug I’ve done!!! 😂😂. Except my quarterly Valium which I’ll be getting in April.

Racing

I can’t sleep.

It feels like time is standing still.

My mind has started its Grand Prix.

Starting off strong but can’t pick one thought out of the bunch.

I can hear the cars passing by the closed window.

Even the white noise of silence has a tone.

Tossing and turning but can’t get comfortable.

Changing the way my mind racing doesn’t help.

It all goes back to running its laps.

How can one’s mind run so much and not get tired?

How can it be we can’t shut it off to get the rest we need?

It’s too late to start a race, but which thought will win?

The to-do list for the week?

How about all the bills to pay?

Or the ways to keep your child busy when you got chores to do?

Try to see if you can stay in the now. It is super hard when your mind is racing, but often our mind is racing with things outside of our control. Take a deep breath and call yourself back as many times as you need to. It might also be a help to talk to yourself out loud. If you worry about things outside of your control, remind yourself of that. Same goes if you worry about things in the future, but you are sitting with something that needs your attention now. Do not judge yourself for your racing mind, call yourself back with compassion and a reassuring talk if you need one. The pieces will fall together and you will order them, when they do. Some pieces might fall down before a piece you need in order to link them, it’s okay. Collect what you can and focus on what is in front of you. 🌸

I've never given myself over to any moment, not wholly at least. My mind, always climbing mountains and diving trenches, can't quite hold as still as my body. My hand rests in the sand of beaches I know I'll never see again, and my little niece, just able to walk, dips her toes in salty waves and points at the horizon as if there should be something at the end of her index finger. And my mind is on that horizon, my mind is climbing into 100 vehicles years from now while trying not to let the moment pass. My mind is in a hurricane forming off the shore a millenia ago and I'm trying so hard to not look back. I want freedom from the past, from the future, but only the dulling of my thoughts could ever bring such. I haven't found my thoughts dulled like that in years, for it ends with vomiting blood.

Over-thinker

She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. Her mind racing non-stop was no surprise. Trying to shut it all out would just make it worse. Being an over-thinker is her biggest curse

Don’t watch anything while you eat they said. Pay attention and enjoy the flavours they said.

My mind is singing two different songs at once, I’m thinking about when strawberry season is in Australia, look at that tree; it’s beautiful, man that bird is annoying and loud, hey beetle get away from my salad, I’m not paying attention to this food at all, mm flavour, flavour is a funny word, also it’s weird when people say a scented candle has a flavour when it’s a scent? Yeah that’s weird, I should light my candles more, stop bobbing your foot, I need to water that plant, and remember to do that other thing, and.. hey... h-how am I already done eating??
