Summary: “We get it, already. If you keep talking like that, people are gonna think you’re in love with the guy or something.” “I, for one, think it’s very kind of your friend to let you stay with him.” Strange things to say, considering Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have been dating for a whole year and a half, and are, in fact, madly in love. Or: five times Wei Ying and Lan Zhan were Very Good Friends, and one time they were fiancés. Kay's comments: This story is so funny and ah, I really feel for Wei Ying and I totally get his frustration. Sometimes, you just gonna come out again and again and maybe one day you're family will finally get the hint that you and your boyfriend are in fact not just good friends. I love the way Wangxian's relationship is portratrayed here and the light angst is hitting all the right spots too, which makes the big reveal even more satisfying. Excerpt: “Well, anyway. I’ve decided not to renew it, and I’ll be moving into Lan Zhan’s place instead.” He waits. Drums his fingers on the table. And waits some more. Jiang Cheng fixes him with the sort of flat, blank stare Wei Ying has only ever seen on his boyfriend before. “How is that at all the same thing?” Willful ignorance is all well and good, but that’s a little hurtful. After all, while he and Lan Zhan aren’t getting married (he would very much like to marry Lan Zhan, but they’re just not… there yet), this is still a big step. It’s earth shattering, groundbreaking news, and should be treated as such. If only Jiang Cheng had a romantic bone in his body. He turns to Yanli, who’s much more inclined to understand these things, but all he gets is a mild, patient smile, the kind that says she’s too used to Wei Ying’s antics to be fazed by this newest development. “Be nice, A-Cheng,” she says, ever the saint. “I, for one, think it’s very kind of your friend to let you stay with him.” The smile slips off Wei Ying’s face. “Lan Zhan isn’t-“ He cuts himself off, looking from Jiang Cheng’s furrowed brow to Yanli’s indulgent smile. Wei Ying is the prankster of the family, but he has the feeling that he’s the butt of the joke this time. Shame curls in his gut, hollowing him out bit by bit. He shouldn’t have said anything. It was stupid, and selfish of him to take attention away from Yanli’s engagement. “Never mind,” he says, returning his attention to his dinner. “So, when’s the wedding supposed to be? Tell me everything!”
