Some rat games fan digimon!! In particular these are the partners for Hyun and Frin! I also gave them a jogress!

Does anybody know how to play with your rats? My room is a safety hazard, so I don't let my boys out too often (we go for walks often though), and I fear that they might get sad. Are there any games I can play with them?

One of the most fun parts of having rats is being creative and making fun little games for them 😍 I made some origami boxes and it took Dooby less than a minute to tear it down and make it rain seeds piñata-style!

Rat Tug o War

The best thing about playing shoelace tug of war with a rat as opposed to cats or dogs, is that with rats there’s a certain moment where they’ll just get fed up with you pulling on the damn string, so they’ll stop tugging on their side, calmly walk over to your hand, give you a kiss and then ‘viciously’ snatch the string from your fingertips. Then they try to run off with it in that cute little rat bounce completely forgetting the fact that you can always just grab the other side of the string that they left behind. Thus the cycle begins anew. 

I also like how my different rats have different strategies. Squash tries to ‘reel’ the string in by rapidly snatching more and more with his teeth. Mocha is kind of shy about it and prefers to chase the string more than actually play tug of war. Before he passed away, Bean liked to plant himself and just lock onto the string with his teeth and pull in short jerking motions. They’re all so precious. <3

Rat gamers and their digimon!

Ratty play area set up for this month! I cut holes in the boxes so they can run from one box into another without having to leave their area if they don’t want to. There a lots of boxes lining the walls as well so they have enough options to hide all they like ☺️

We’re a little worried about the proximity to the window but so far they haven’t shown interest in climbing onto the ledge, fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞

The cage is also a bit small for our liking but they get the whole day to roam around the room (they don’t seem interested in chewing cables so far but when/if they do we’ll have to figure something out!) so the cage is really only a night-time necessity.

Every weekend they get a new cage layout and every once in a while (approximately monthly) we change the play area to switch things up a bit more and keep them interested!
