March Reading Wrap Up

Well, feels like March has only just began and here it is ending. Surprisingly good reading month for me honestly! Lot of different genres of books I read, but leaned a lot more on manga and graphic novels as I have been stressed about coursework and life. I have to admit, I am very proud of the fact I had managed my goal of reading daily almost, which does make me smile as I did want to get into reading more often. I'm not sure yet if I am passing my other goal of reading more books I enjoy? But can't have everything! Favourite this month was Guillotine, it just ugh it makes my skin crawl remembering that book in all the ways you want a horror book to be like . Least favourite was Vampire Knight, I don't know why I keep forcing myself to read that series... I really need to just give it up at this point.

A few months late, but I present to you my 2019 reading statistics! I’ve taken all the information about my reading in 2019 and complied it into charts (so many charts) to take a look back at my reading year. 

Total Books Read: 125

Total Pages: 46,081

Favorite Reads: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Wilder Girls by Rory Power, and Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

Worst Reads: Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke, Never Ever by Sara Saedi, and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

Shortest Book: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway (127 pages)

Longest Book: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (980 pages)

Monthly Overview

I would say that 2019 was a very successful reading year! I have definitely noticed that my reading is getting much more consistent which is awesome. May was my best reading month with 16 books and November was my worst with 7 books (which is honestly still pretty good).

pages per month: 3,840 pages per day: 126 books per month: 10 days per book: 3

Book Breakdown

Fantasy was once again the dominating reading genre, but I definitely branched out more with my reading. 

I was not surprised to see that books with a page count between 300-399 is where I read the most. It seems that most books fall within that category! Interestingly, I read the same number of books over 500 pages as I did in 2018. 

Average number of pages per book: 369

I read more standalones this year than last year which is pretty cool. Although, I spent the majority of the year working on catching up and completing series. 

Sadly, the 3 star rating reigns supreme and I gave out even less 5 stars this year than last year. I think that in 2020 I will no longer use half stars and hopefully that will cause me to rate books more evenly.

Book Consumption

I read slightly more books digitally than physically this year with audiobook and hardcover being my preferred formats. 

Hours listened: 492.85

I did a good job of reading from my own shelves this year, but I also continued to make good use of my public library. I also used third party platforms less this year, which I am happy about. 

Range of Reading

Young Adult is still the age group I read the most from and this year I read even more than last year. 

I spent a lot of this year reading books published in prior years that I just hadn’t gotten to yet which is always nice to see. However, I still read a decent amount of new releases. 

The book world is female apparently, lol. This graph is pretty typical for my reading, but I am glad to see that more authors of different genders are starting to get published.

Goals Reflection

My reading goal for 2019 was 80 books which I thought would be a good challenge, but wouldn’t be too much pressure. I ended up reaching that goal by the end of July and finished off the year by reading a total of 125 books. Not quite as many as the year before, but still an impressive number!

My TBR at the beginning of the year was somewhere around 100 and by the end of the year it was at 46! I am so happy with how much I was able to reduce my physical TBR and I hope to continue the trend in 2020.

Some reading stats from last year! I read 110 books total. 4 #middlegrade, 15 #ya, and 91 adult. I've done a pretty good job of diversifying what I read, and am pretty proud that romance was less than 50% of my total. . This year I definitely want to read even more ya and middle grade books, and I want to explore some of the genres I dipped my toe in in 2018 a bit more adventurously. .
