As I like to do every year, I made a list of the books that are at the top of my TBR. Last year didn’t go as planned (thanks, covid), but I am determined to make 2021 one of my best reading years! These are the books that I am going to make it a priority to read this year:
Hello friends! Long time no talk! I unfortunately neglected this blog for most of 2020, but I am hoping to get back into the habit of posting and talking about the books that I am reading with all of you.
For my first post I thought it would only be fitting that I show you the set up for my 2021 reading journal! I decided to get a little more artsy this year and so far I am loving it.
I drew the title page myself based on a couple images I saw online and I love opening my journal to it each time I use it.
As I usually do, I made a page to track the number of books I read. This year it is based on my Goodreads goal, which is 60 books. On the other side I included all the goals that I set for myself:
Read 60 books
Use CAWPILE rating system
Participate in bookclubs to expand my reading
Post more consistently on blog
Read at least 1 fae book a month
I added a simple visual of 15 books that I am making it a priority to read this year. I will have a post listing the titles of each book tomorrow! I also added a tracker for the series I am hoping to finish.
Next I have some staple reading journal spreads: a list of my anticipated releases and a space to write the books that I acquire each month.
Then we have the spreads for the bookclubs I am going to take part in, The Literally Dead Book Club, Myth Take Reads, Busy Bee Bookclub, and Iqra Trials, as well as my plans for the Buzzword Reading Challenge.
The final page of my set up is a bookshelf I drew that contains my owned TBR prior to 2021. My plan is to color in the books as I read them and hopefully by the end of the year it will be all filled out!
One of my favorite months in my reading journal for this year! I love fall and so I loved using these lovely stickers to decorate my journal. I also had a great time participating in both Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon and the Spookathon.
My goodness is this post overdue. Hello friends, I’m back 🙃
Here’s a look at my September spreads. I kept it pretty simple in terms of decoration, but I participated in two readthons, so it definitely wasn’t a simple reading month. I am happy with what I was able to accomplish given that I had a little reading slump.
A few months late, but I present to you my 2019 reading statistics! I’ve taken all the information about my reading in 2019 and complied it into charts (so many charts) to take a look back at my reading year.
Total Books Read: 125
Total Pages: 46,081
Favorite Reads: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Wilder Girls by Rory Power, and Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
Worst Reads: Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke, Never Ever by Sara Saedi, and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Shortest Book: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway (127 pages)
Longest Book: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (980 pages)
Total Books Acquired: 41
Monthly Overview
I would say that 2019 was a very successful reading year! I have definitely noticed that my reading is getting much more consistent which is awesome. May was my best reading month with 16 books and November was my worst with 7 books (which is honestly still pretty good).
AVERAGE NUMBER OF:
pages per month: 3,840
pages per day: 126
books per month: 10
days per book: 3
Book Breakdown
Fantasy was once again the dominating reading genre, but I definitely branched out more with my reading.
I was not surprised to see that books with a page count between 300-399 is where I read the most. It seems that most books fall within that category! Interestingly, I read the same number of books over 500 pages as I did in 2018.
Average number of pages per book: 369
I read more standalones this year than last year which is pretty cool. Although, I spent the majority of the year working on catching up and completing series.
Sadly, the 3 star rating reigns supreme and I gave out even less 5 stars this year than last year. I think that in 2020 I will no longer use half stars and hopefully that will cause me to rate books more evenly.
Average rating: 3.53
Book Consumption
I read slightly more books digitally than physically this year with audiobook and hardcover being my preferred formats.
Hours listened: 492.85
I did a good job of reading from my own shelves this year, but I also continued to make good use of my public library. I also used third party platforms less this year, which I am happy about.
Range of Reading
Young Adult is still the age group I read the most from and this year I read even more than last year.
I spent a lot of this year reading books published in prior years that I just hadn’t gotten to yet which is always nice to see. However, I still read a decent amount of new releases.
The book world is female apparently, lol. This graph is pretty typical for my reading, but I am glad to see that more authors of different genders are starting to get published.
Goals Reflection
My reading goal for 2019 was 80 books which I thought would be a good challenge, but wouldn’t be too much pressure. I ended up reaching that goal by the end of July and finished off the year by reading a total of 125 books. Not quite as many as the year before, but still an impressive number!
My TBR at the beginning of the year was somewhere around 100 and by the end of the year it was at 46! I am so happy with how much I was able to reduce my physical TBR and I hope to continue the trend in 2020.
Those are all my reading statistics for 2019!! If you actually read all this, thank you! I know it’s a lot, but I love having a visual representation of how I read. I can’t wait to see how my reading compares in 2020!
Hello readers! I am starting off the new year with a list of the books that I want to make it a priority to read in 2020! I did really well with my list last year so I figured I should challenge myself again this year. Here are the books:
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard
The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes
Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
Heir to the Shadows by Anne Bishop
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
These are the books that have been announced so far for release in 2020 that I can’t wait to pick up! (When books for the later half of the year are confirmed I will make a part two)
Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen
Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim
All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace
The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski
Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie
Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust
Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee
Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar
Are you looking forward to any of these books? Or are there any you think I should look out for that aren’t on this list? Let me know!
Still one of my favorite months of the year in my journal! I just love all the different shades of green and the tropical vibe thanks to the leaf stickers.
I am several months late, but here’s a look at my finished May spreads!
I participated in a few readathons, including the Asian Readathon which I loved doing because it encouraged me to read more diversely. I’m pretty sure this month is also the month I’ve read the most books in 2019 so that’s pretty exciting. In terms of the journal itself, I had to get a little creative to fit my stats on the page, but I like how it turned out.
Hello readers, Happy 2019! My first post of the new year is going to be all about the books on my TBR that I want to get to ASAP. Also known as the “why haven’t I read these yet?” books!
My goal is to finish these 15 books before the end of 2019. Seems easy enough, but there’s a lot of new releases I want to get to as well, so wish me luck, lol. Here’s a list of the books (alphabetically because I love organization) with a little explanation as to why it’s a priority for me!
Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld — I was supposed to buddy read this with my best friend in 2018, but we both got too busy.
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco — @shadowtearling has raved about this book so much, how could I not want to pick it up?? Also the cover is gorgeous, we need more purple covers in literature.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber — Another possible buddy read option? Also I just love the idea of circus books.
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi — I had my bf buy me this, but then I never picked it up?? I feel like I need to get to it so that his money doesn’t feel wasted, lol.
Circe by Madeline Miller — Greek Mythology. ‘Nough said.
Four Weeks, Five People by Jennifer Yu — I. Bought. This. For. Myself. And then didn’t read it even though I was looking forward to it?? I confuse myself sometimes.
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab — Loved the first book, need to continue with the series.
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert — This sounds like my kind of book and has received some mixed reviews so I want to see where I stand.
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas — It’s the final book!!!! (Yes, I like this series, and yes, I acknowledge that it has quite a few issues, but hey, read what you like, right?)
Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes — Retellings are one of my favorite things to read and Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories.
Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb — The first book was great. I convinced my bf to read it and he’s continued on with the series and has since not stopped telling me to pick up the rest of the books.
The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon — Just a sequel I want to check off my list.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor — OMG! I started listening to the audiobook for this last year, but the writing was so beautiful I knew I needed to wait until I could read a physical copy.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw — It’s about witches. That’s all I really need to know to want to read it.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu — One of my backlist books. It needs to happen.
