Red tegu for rehoming!
So if you’re following me, or seeing this post, odds are good that you think tegus are pretty great. And you’d be right, because they are. Do you think you’re ready for one of your own? If so, and you’re near the western part of Virginia (think eastern TN, KY, north GA, west NC environs), you might be interested In the lovely Neera!
Neera is a red tegu who’s around 3 or 4 years old, and she is looking for a new home. She’s a petite girl with a sweet demeanor and would make an amazing pet. Her current caretaker’s living situation is rapidly and unexpectedly changing, and finding her a new home is the kindest thing for both her and her owner.
Neera does have congenital spine curvature, but it doesn’t really impact her much; her quality of life is tip top. She should not, however, be bred and isn’t the most active tegu- she’s so sweet and chill! She’s be a really good pet for somebody with a little reptile experience who wants a big lizard with a great personality.
If you’re interested in knowing more about this sweet girl, shoot my friend an email at [email protected]. She’d be happy to talk with you about potential arrangements!
Neera will have a rehoming fee and arrangements may be made for her enclosure and accoutrements to be included as well!
Thanks so much for looking, and feel free to send this to anybody you know who might be in the market for a sweet little red tegu gal!
You MUST pick… snake that looks like milk n cookies 🥛🍪OR lizard that looks like raw meat🥩🥓?
I do want to get into animal art (as well as take a break from robots since I have a queue of them), so! Two of my fav kind of animal ever, the piebald ball python n red tegu!
Salvator rufescens better known as the red tegu is a species of large lizard native to western Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay where they tend to inhabit scrublands, semi-deserts, savannah, and dry forests. These diurnal lizards are powerful diggers that deep tunnel like burrows which they utilize for troth general shelter, nesting, and as hibernation sites. During the coldest periods of the year these tegus brumate, in some areas for up to seven months at a time. Red tegus are opportunistic omnivores feeding on a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, leaves, insects, snails, slugs, crustaceans, rodents, birds, smaller reptiles, fish, eggs, and carrion. There is a considerable amount of sexual dimorphism in this species with females reaching around 3ft (91cms) in length while males can reach upwards of 4.5ft (140cms) in length. Additionally males notably sport distinctive prominent fatty jowls. Both sexes sport a reddish brown coloration with green to black strips across their width and several broken white stripes down their length. Breeding may occur up to twice a year during the warm season with a female red tegu laying roughly 18 to 25 eggs inside her burrow, which she then covers with dry grass, small branches, and leaves in order to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels. After a 40 to 75 day incubation periods the eggs hatch. Red tegu hatchlings show little red coloration, and gradually grow more colorful as they age. Growing rapidly the red tegu typically reaches maturity in two to three years. Under ideal conditions a red tegu may live up to 20 years.
