His Hand
"There's twenty-seven bones in one human hand. Fifty-four in total." Pet said as the traced the tendons of Vega's hand, over his skin. He didn't say anything, eyes watching their fingers trail up the tendons and into the dips between his knuckles. Pet continued. "They're divided into three sections. Phalanges, metacarpal, and carpal. The carpal has eight bones. Sixteen in total between both hands."
They turned his hand over, fingers now tracing the lines of his palm. He raised a brow, but still stayed quiet as they continued their... worship? Exploration? "The first records of palm readers was 3000 BCE in Asia, Egypt, and Greece." They said as their index finger traced the curve of flesh at the base of his thumb. Vega leaned his head back, horns tapping against the wall.
"There are four types of palms. Earth, fire, air, and water."
I'm not an elemental, Pet.
They didn't answer him, instead continuing with their lesson. Vega smirked. "Earth hands have square palms and short fingers. Fire hand have long palm and short fingers. Air hands have square palms and long fingers. Water hands have long palms and long fingers."
Vega heaved an unnecessary breath and looked at his hand. Pet's fingers were tracing over his own reverently. Along the mounts and plains, over the lines, along his long slender fingers.
Is there a meaning? He asked and watched as they nodded.
"Yes. I don't know them though." Vega snorted and his human looked at him. "What?"
Nothing. Tell me what else you know about hands. He said, waving away their adorable confusion. They stared back at him before shrugging and continuing.
They pointed to under his index finger. "That's the Mount of Jupiter." Then to his middle, "Saturn," Ring, "Apollo" and lastly his pinkie finger, "Mercury." They traced their finger to the dip in his palm. "Plain of Mars. Outer Mars is under your Mount of Mercury, inner Mars is under your Mount of Jupiter. Under outer Mars is Luna, under inner Mars is Venus."
They went to tracing the lines of his palm. "The top line near your fingers is your heart line. Under that is your head line. Under that is your life line. Then your fate line. Then your sun line." He could feel the edge of their nail trace against the lines, as if trying to deepen them.
He grabbed their free hand with his own, tapping against the lines of their palm. Heart line. Head line. Life line. Fate line. Sun line. He repeated. Pet nodded and lined their palm against his.
"I used to believe that if the heart lines of one palm matched with another, it meant soulmates. No idea if that's true or not though." They added. Vega's gaze dropped to their palms, side by side.
He shifted his hands down slightly so the lines aligned to create a steady stream from his palm onto theirs.
"That's cheating."
I never said I played fair, Pet.
