about rediscovering things

Tbh there's some pleasure in being wrong in some cases, and I've recently learned to get excited about rediscovering things I used to dislike.

The most vivid example of this occurred with "Chainsaw Man," which left me deeply disappointed when I read manga for the first time last year, as I told in an earlier post. I started watching anime this week when only 5 episodes of the entire season were released and fell in love. I realized what had been hidden from me the first time, and it was thrilling to feel my heart open towards the characters. I'm surprised by how I misunderstood Denji and it was nice to finally see him for real. It's sad to think that if I had too much pride to give it another shot, it would be gone for me forever.

When I was a teenager, there was one book that I absolutely despised: Michael Swanwick's "Iron Dragons" series. I remember being a real jerk when retelling the story in a terrible light. Despite the fact that it still has low ratings after so many years, I want to read it again to see how I now feel about what and how it describes. I've changed a LOT as a person since then, I have more experience and a different perspective on the world, so it will surely be one exciting experiment. I'll let you know how it went.

Reconnecting with myself and who I am has been such an emotional rollercoaster. I never knew how much I’ve missed who I am until I began to do the things I love again, and making time for myself. A sense of nostalgia I’ve been having while also reconnecting to my teen self before I’ve begun to distance myself from me. It’s a weird concept to describe to people. How does one distance themselves from themselves?

Simple, you begin to fit yourself to someone else’s needs and wants. I was in a very unhealthy relationship as a teen and over that time I lost who I was. Than I started another relationship, and I did the same thing even though the relationship was healthy. Now not being in a relationship, I have time to rediscover my likes and dislikes and the people I want to surround myself with.

I suggest no matter your relationship status to revisit the things you liked to do as a teen and child and see if it brings you joy and try to make time for it even if it’s once month.

I’m exactly who I’ve always been, years ago I thought I lost myself but I’m right here under all these books and albums and movies, I can’t believe it’s been me this whole time. I’m just as I was, the same things will excite my brain and stir up happy emotions, I spent so long trying to become someone else I forgot how good it is to be me. So lovely and so lucky
