so in several mythologies its said that when you die at sea you go to a different afterlife because the ocean has a hold on you, and that gave me an au idea
percy is a regular mortal child in a lower class family with his mom and dad, his mom works at a grocery store and candy shop while his dad is a fisherman getting fish for them to eat and to sell his dad always said it was too dangerous for percy to go on the sea, especially at his young age, but for his 11th birthday he decides percy can come with him. sally tells them to be careful
instead of getting the sunny day they were promised, an unexpected storm crawls in, and percy and his dad cant get back to shore in time- their boat capsizes, and the last thing percy remembers is water filling his lungs as his name is called
when percy wakes up he is in the fridgid, pitch black depths of the ocean. a man is there, though its clear hes not human, and introduces himself as poseidon. he asks for percys name, and if he remembers anything its only a blurry memory, he was with his father, and there was a storm, and now he doesnt know where his father is. poseidon doesnt either he says he cant help percy find him, his father isnt here, and its for the best that hes not. percy doesnt understand, but poseidon says he will
percy doesnt stay in the ocean, but he stays cold. it clings to him. poseidon says others cant see it, but percy can. he can see his pale, gray skin. he can see the frost sticking to it, refusing to leave no matter how close to the fire he is. he stops trying after a while, it wont warm him up. hes touched the ground before, but never went to far. poseidon says its not safe, that itll only lead to worse discomfort, but percy wonders what more discomfort there is than being confined to a grave, no matter how large it is
