My Queen | Reggie x Reader
Prompt by @irishxgem: At the homecoming dance, there is always a king and queen announced at the end. But when Reggie is king and you’re not his queen, what does he do?
The homecoming dance was the second most anticipated dated of the year behind the prom. Every girl was stressed if she would get asked to the dance and every guy panicked, realizing they hadn’t asked anyone yet and had to do it soon. You would normally fall into that category, but this year you didn’t. You had been dating a guy for awhile now: Reggie. You’d been dating for about four months, the relationship was still pretty new. But regardless of how long you were dating, you really liked Reggie. Most people told you that he wasn’t one for relationships or any dating, but that quickly changed when he met you. He knew that you weren’t the casual hook up girl; you were worth way more than that. Reggie had asked you out before anyone else could scoop you up and you were glad he did.
Reggie would most certainly be your date to the dance and you were a little nervous, but mostly excited. This was the first time you would be to a dance where you and the other person weren’t going as friends or it wasn’t set up by your friends and you are your date would never talk to each other. It was a real date and that made your stomach do flips. All good things though.
When the bell dismissed Riverdale High’s students from class that Friday afternoon, everyone dashed home, hurrying to get ready for the dance. Instead, you drove to Veronica’s house to get ready. She insisted you got ready with her, so you could do her hair and she’d do your make up. After, you and Reggie and her and Archie could take pictures before you headed off to the dance. You happily obliged, excited to have someone to get ready with rather than doing it all by yourself.
You arrived at Veronica’s house promptly as she opened the door dragging you in, “Oh good, you’re here. Come. We should start now.” Veronica closed the door to her room with a smile on her face as you laughed.
“It’s three o’clock,” you told her. “The dance doesn’t start until seven.”
Veronica shrugged, “It can never be to early to look cute. Now, help me choose a dress. The navy blue or the slate gray?” She holds up two beautiful dresses as you gawk at them. “Gorgeous, right? My mom had them sent from New York,” she tells you.
The two dresses were beautiful. The navy blue dress was a sleek fit and flare dress that would no doubt look incredible on Veronica. But you couldn’t take your eyes off of that slate gray dress. It was such a beautifully made dress--the fabric almost had an iridescence in the light. The sleeveless sweetheart neckline structure was undeniably pretty. “Oh, Ronnie,” you sigh. “They’re both so beautiful.”
She watches as you stare at the gray dress as she smiles at you. “Then you wear one, and I’ll wear the other,” she offers as you widen your eyes. You reject her offer; you already had a dress. It wasn’t nearly as pretty as Veronica’s, but you know that you’d still feel pretty in it. “Y/N, you’re basically salivating over it. You wear the gray and I’ll wear the navy,” she lays the dress in your lap before you can object.
Smiling, you feel the material in your hands with a sigh. It was a pretty dress....”Thank you, V,” you tell her as she smiles brightly. “Okay, you sit down and I’ll get started on your hair.”
Before you know it, four hours pass and Veronica is putting the final touches on your make up. “Look up,” she instructs as you do so. She coats your bottom lashes with more mascara before screwing it shut. “All done,” she hands you a mirror. “You look stunning. Seriously, Y/N.”
As you look in the mirror, you love what you see. You had no idea Veronica was so talented when it came to cosmetics. She had swept a neutral champagne color across your lid so your dress could remain the main focal point of your look. The whole look was amazing and you turned around to tell her that, “You are a magician.”
Veronica laughs, “Hey, you were beautiful before all of this. All I did was enhance.” You squeeze her hand before she says that the both of you should change into your dresses. You zip up her dress and she does the same for you before you two step into view of the full size mirror. You are taken back by your reflection. The dress fit like a glove and the silvery gray dress looked so ethereal on your tanned skin. Veronica rubs your arms, “Do you like it?”
“Like it?” you giggle. “Veronica, I love it. But, let’s take a second to look at you! Geez!” Veronica did a spin for you as you clapped. “Archie is a lucky guy.”
Almost as if they could hear you, the doorbell rings, signaling the boys were here. Your heart starts to beat faster when you hear Reggie’s voice greet Veronica’s parents. Veronica notices that you’re nervous and she is quick to calm you down. “Hey,” she says. “Everything is fine. You and Reggie are dating and you’re gonna have an incredible time tonight.” You nod your head before she links her arm with yours. “Now, let’s go and show them how great we look.”
The two of you exit Veronica’s room, walking into her living space. Veronica’s parents as well as Archie and Reggie turn towards you two as you enter and Reggie is completely floored by the way you looked. His eyes widened and his heart started to beat faster. He knew you were going to look beautiful, but he didn’t think you’d strut out looking like a goddess. “Wow,” he whispered under his breath. Archie walked to Veronica, planting a kiss on her lips quickly before complimenting her on how she looked, then doing the same to you. You thanked him before walking over to Reggie, him taking your hands in his. “I have no words,” he laughs as you blush.
He places his hands on your waist as you speak, “Really?” He nods his head, kissing your lips quickly to confirm. “Thank you. And you look very handsome.” He wore a black suit--very clean cut, very Reggie.
Mrs. Lodge interjects, saying she had to take a few quick pictures before you all headed out to the dance. It was a little awkward, having to take cheesy pictures as your best friend’s mom took shots of you and your boyfriend. But of course, Veronica shooed her away, with the excuse that you were going to be late.
When you arrived to the dance, you immediately settled into yourself. You felt much more relaxed with Reggie’s arm wrapped around your waist as you spotted your friends around the gym. He squeezes your waist as you look at your boyfriend with a smile. “Hey,” you beam before connecting your lips. He smiles into the kiss, holding you in his arms. “I’m glad we’re here together.”
Reggie kisses your cheek. “Me, too, babe. Come on, let’s go dance.”
The whole night, you act like a complete fool with your friends, not caring what anyone thinks. You and Veronica jump around, dragging Betty onto the dance floor as she reluctantly gives in before dancing around just as wildly as you two. But of course, Reggie was acting like the biggest idiot, dancing with Archie, making comments to Veronica. “You jealous, Ronnie? Your boyfriend loves me more than you!” Reggie cuddled into Archie’s chest jokingly.
Veronica smiles, “I’m sure he does. And I bet I can say the same about your girlfriend and I.” You jokingly kiss Veronica’s cheek as Reggie gasps, grabbing his chest jokingly.
The night slowly started to wind down, but of course, not before voting for the homecoming king and queen. You scanned the ballot, smiling as you saw your boyfriend’s name printed on the list under boys. Reggie was nominated lat year for king, but he lost against Moose, but this year, you were hoping he would win. You knew that he was secretly (or not so secretly) an attention whore and you loved to see him get what he wants, especially if it means attention. As you circled his name, you looked over to the girl options, silently groaned. You hoped there would be someone who you would enjoy voting for, but your options included people like Josie McCoy, his ex and an enemy of Veronica’s, and of course, Cheryl Blossom. Begrudgingly, you circled someone else’s name, dropping the ticket into the ballot box. You walked away from the voting table before you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist and a pair of lips kissing your neck. “Did you vote for the hottest guy on that ballot?” Reggie asked in between little kisses.
You blushed, holding onto his hands. “Mhm,” you hummed. “Chuck Clayton has been looking so good recently,” you teased him as he smacked your butt. “I’m kidding. Of course, you have my vote,” you kissed his nose.
“I wish you could have been a choice for queen,” he groans as you shrug. You didn’t care that you weren’t nominated. Public stunts like this wasn’t your thing.
A few minutes passed and Principal Weatherbee came up to the microphone on the stage. “Alright, students, we have the results for homecoming king and queen!” he announced as the whole gym ceased its chatter. You squeezed Reggie’s hand excitedly. He was one hundred percent winning. You could feel it in your stomach. “Riverdale High’s homecoming king is...” he starts before taking a long pause. Just say the name already, damn it. “Mr. Reggie Mantle!” he exclaims as you cheer.
A large smile comes across Reggie’s face before he kisses your lips quickly. “I told you,” you poked at his sides. “Now, go get your crown!” As your boyfriend made his way you to the stage, you watched with a smile as his teammates were hollering his name, patting his back. Betty placed the crown on his head as she congratulated him as he gave her a hug. A smug smirk was plastered on Reggie’s face and you can’t help but laugh. What a drama queen.
Principal Weatherbee speaks into the microphone again, “Riverdale High’s homecoming queen....”again with that same long pause. “Cheryl Blossom!” People cheer out for her, but you stay silent, only clapping for her. She pushed her way through the crowd to have that stupid plastic tiara placed on her head. “Okay, clear the dance floor, so the king and queen can have their dance.”
Students clear the floor for Reg and Cheryl and Veronica comes up to you. “You okay?” she asks, genuinely curious. She couldn’t tell if you were mad that Cheryl won or completely indifferent.
“I’m fine, V. I’m happy that Reggie won. I knew going in that his options for queen weren’t my favorite people, but hey,” you tell her. “At least I know he’s my boyfriend.” Veronica smiles, happy to hear you weren’t torn over the situation.
You watch as your boyfriend sways gently with Cheryl in his arms. Of course, it hurts a little that the boy you should be dancing with was dancing with someone else. But it was just a dance. Not like he was leaving you for Cheryl Blossom. Reggie looked over at you a few times to see your reaction as you gave him a small smile as if to tell him, Everything is okay. Keep going. He and Cheryl had only been dancing for two minutes before he spoke to her and parted his ways. Reggie, with that same smug smile, walked up to you, the entire gym’s eyes on you and him. “What are you doing?” you ask him. “Go back there and dance.”
Reggie grabs your hand in his, pulling you onto the dance floor. “Not without you,” he smiles, placing his hands on your waist as you shake your head.
“I can’t believe you’re doing this,” you look over to Cheryl who looked pissed at first, but then relaxes, seeing how happy you and Reggie look together. “You’re supposed to be dancing with the girl who won. Not the girl who wasn’t even nominated.”
He shakes his head, “I don’t care what the ballot says. You’re my queen.” Your heart flutters at his words as you blush, him dipping his head down to kiss you. You wrap your arms around his neck as he pulls you in close. You can hear people make commentary as you kiss him, but you couldn’t care. It was just you and Reggie in this moment. As he pulls away, he leans his forehead on yours. “I love you, Y/N. I know it’s an awkward first time to say it, but I love you so much,” he breathes.
Smiling wide, you say, “I love you, too, Reg. So much.”
