The existence of Ingo’s alpha fight means that at some point, Ingo waltzed into Jubilife Village followed by three enormous, towering monsters. And the entire village was like “yeah this is fine, he probably knows what he’s doing” lmao Also note that his alphas all have red eyes. That means he didn’t even catch them, they’re still wild. This man somehow convinced a bunch of wild alphas to fight for him just by talking to them nicely

Kid Emmet with the Security Corps! What mayhem will he get into? Who’s the first to humor Emmet in a battle only to get knocked flat on their backs? Who’re his enablers that still pull him back when he gets too close to trouble?
I imagine that for the first few months while Emmet was in Hisui and still had exactly 0 impulse control around Pokémon, that Ingo would not let him go out of Jubilife Village without either himself or Rei as an escort. When he had to leave him at home alone, he’d talk to Ress and make sure that he wouldn’t let his kid brother go past the gate ( because of course he’s going to try ).
On his first attempt Emmet just tries walking straight past Ress, only to get stopped in his tracks. “Sorry, kid,” Ress says, “I can’t let you pass.”
“Why not?” Emmet asks, indignant.
“Ingo told me not to.”
This upsets Emmet a little, because he’s 10 which means he’s practically a grown up and he can take care of himself, thank you very much, but no matter how much he pleads with Ress, he’s not budging.
Finally a thought occurs to him. “Let’s have a battle!” he suggests. “If I win, you let me out of the gate.”
Ress looks amused at the thought. “And if I win?”
“I’ll go back home and won’t bother you again.”
Ress agrees to battle little Emmet. Emmet is quite satisfied with his brilliant plan when they start the battle because he thinks he has this one in the bag. He has yet to meet anyone in Hisui that is anything close to a real battler, other than Ingo, of course.
He was not expecting his level 62 Bidoof, Starly, and Shinx.
Given that at this point Emmet only has two pokemon, and they aren’t very high leveled, at that, he loses the battle. Despite the fact that this means he can’t wander the Obsidian Fields on his own, he’s not upset. In fact, he’s extremely entertained by Ress and his Pokemon.
He designates Ress as his new rival. The deal is always the same--if Emmet wins, Ress will let him out of the gate to roam around with no adult supervision. It takes him several months to train up a team that is strong enough to beat him, and when he does, Ress is true to his word. The way he sees it, if the kid is strong enough to beat a team of level 60′s, he’s strong enough to easily handle anything the Obsidian Fields might throw his way.
