Dans mon périmètre : l'Impasse des Radeliers et le Retro Bar (fermeture définitive). L'impasse a été nommée ainsi car les radeliers naviguant sur l'Ain font partie de l'histoire de Neuville. La navigation sur la rivière d'Ain était déjà utilisée par les Romains pour transporter les matériaux. Le flottage vers le Rhône fut pratiqué jusqu’au début du XXe siècle. À Neuville-sur-Ain, elle a revêtu une grande importance. Tous les transports se faisaient à la descente et presque toutes les marchandises étaient expédiées du Jura à destination de Lyon. Le port de Neuville était à peu près le seul du département de l’Ain qui donnait lieu à du trafic. Les marchandises transportées consistaient principalement en bois de construction et de chauffage, charbon de bois, poisson, mousse, caisses d’emballage en treillis de noisetier et produits manufacturés (robinets, pipes et sifflets de Saint-Claude, peignes d'Oyonnax). Les gros bois étaient expédiés en radeaux, les autres articles sur des bateaux ou batelets (groupés entre eux en « coubles » pour économiser le nombre de conducteurs). Neuville était une halte privilégiée des radeliers et les auberges y étaient florissantes (l'Ecu de France, le Lion d'Or et la Croix-Blanche). Halte méritée car la navigation sur l'Ain était pénible et dangereuse en raison d’un grand nombre de blocs de pierre et de rochers détachés des montagnes qui venaient encombrer son lit. Indépendamment de ces obstacles, les digues des moulins et les rochers qui se trouvaient (et se trouvent toujours d'ailleurs) sous le pont de Neuville, étaient autant d’écueils pour les bateaux de descente. Un certain nombre d'accidents de radeaux, parfois mortels, sont relatés dans les faits divers de l'époque.
